A powerful place to sit and feel all the emotions. A wall decorated with names of all those lost. Very beautiful!! The bathrooms were super clean too!! This place is a must see!! A beautiful and peaceful tribute, often adorned with photos and flowers. This is a neat little place to visit and see. They offer a video to hear what happened here and that is very interesting, but to see the area and the destruction that happened from this earthquake is pretty neat to see.😍 This memorial and the history of the area was quite enlightening. The park service has done an excellent job of creating an educational experience for all that choose to stop along the way. 😊 This is a beautiful area and the sights of the grandeur of nature are worth the stop along the way. An absolute hidden gem, created by the dark history of an earthquake that took several lives . To understand the beauty of the city , first you have to understand the devastation that created it!!Take some time to visit and get a map, and go see all the marked areas. It's a somber reminder of how things can be changed in...
Read moreThis is an incredible exhibit that uses sound, visuals and interactive displays to tell the story of Christchurch and its quakes. I was particularly moved by the Haka that plays at the start accompanying the Maori story of the earthquake son- it lasts for the length of the shake and gave me goosebumps! I also found the TV and radio news reports- and the CCTV- lent a somber, sobering tone as you walked around. One neat thing was the “graffiti” on the back of the Belfry door- scrawled notes from decades past noting time and dates of the belfry clock stopping due to earthquakes. The video recollections of the people who lived through it all are particularly compelling too. I learnt so much that I didn’t know as an Aussie- not to mention the tenacity of the Canterbury region as they rebuild and forge on. Quake City is a must-see for any city visitor that complements the tram commentary and ties it all together. The staff here were genuinely enthused and...
Read moreQuake City is an exceptionally insightful museum that truly drives home how fragile life can be. It's a place where visitors can come face to face with the reality of the 2011 earthquake through sometimes difficult-to-watch videos and exhibits. It's heavy stuff, but it's essential for understanding the impact of that tragic event.
Despite the admission fee of $20, which is unlike most other museums in the area that are free, it's a worthwhile visit. I believe that many would be willing to contribute more in the end, given the opportunity. The staff at Quake City are fantastic, and I hope they consider adding a little coffee corner – perfect for extended visits.
Keep up the great work, Quake City, in sharing the important history and lessons that need to be remembered.🏛️🌍 #QuakeCity #ChristchurchMuseum...
