It is simply amazing how this clock survived the earthquakes. A fabulous piece of history to remain standing after all this time. It was good to see IMHO that it wasn't demolished like many historic buildings that have come down. However that raises another issue about demolishing old historic places which is not intended here. These words are just to say it is good we still...

The Victoria Clock Tower was designed by Benjamin Mountfort under the commission of the Canterbury Provincial Council. It was made in England in 1860, and was a temporary fixture of the Provincial Buildings before becoming a monument to mark Queen Victoria’s diamond jubilee.
