Going to the bog was a fairly spontaneous decision made because we wanted to try something new and it was a great decision! We were made welcome and shown to our table promptly. They had a great atmosphere, it had a very fun, vibrant pub feel. The music was good and upbeat but a little on the loud side so don't go in expecting a quiet dining experience. They have a beautiful interior and it was very clean and had a very warm welcoming vibe. The bathrooms were also very nice and clean. The staff were some of the best I have had the pleasure of being served by. They were pleasant and polite, they were very quick to remove used dishes and always nearby to assist us with any queries or requests and knew all of the specials without hesitation. Everything on the menu sounded amazing and was reasonably priced. We ordered Garlic bread which had some of the creamiest, lightest and most amazing garlic butter I have ever had. The chicken noodle soup was cooked to perfection with all of the veggies being just right and the broth was amazing, i could have just had the soup broth for my meal and would still have been very satisfied. I ordered the chicken schnitzel which was moist and delicious, my only issue with it was there not being enough mushroom sauce but that's mostly because it was so delicious. My partner ordered one of the steak dishes which was a fair bit tougher than it should have been but it wasn't bad enough to ruin the meal. Overall a fantastic experience and we will have to go back again because i feel like i need to try everything on the menu.

One lone cold Tuesday eve in April, travelling on a business trip, I found myself wandering the streets of Christchurch looking for a hearty feed and a bit of a pick me up. Then I heard it coming across the breeze on the cool night air, the sounds of the green isle. They pulled me in like a cheap wh*re beckoning me in off the streets. With the door open the sounds of an Irish 13 piece and the smell of Guinness, Magners and Jameson mixed in a tall glass and thrown in your face met you with welcoming arms. The Shamrock schnitzel, a prize winner, un damaged and crumbed to perfection rested gently upon a generous mountain of perfectly cooked vegetables and steamy mashed potatoes. Washed down by a tall glass of cider and the sweet sweet notes of the ironically named “The Jameson” , I was sent reeling back in time to a life I never had in a country I never lived. A must visit on a Tuesday night in Christchurch

My first advice to any traveler: In any new city you wander to, find the Irish pub and sit down for a pint. Arriving here from the US to explore a new city with no particular agenda in mind that's exactly what I did. This landed me at 'The Bog' in Christchurch. A must-visit for anyone looking for a great Irish pub experience. Not only are their fries perfectly crispy and seasoned, and the wine list extensive and well-curated, but their cocktails are expertly crafted too. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the staff are friendly and attentive. On top of all that, they often have fantastic live music, adding to the already vibrant and fun atmosphere. Whether you're looking for a casual meal, a night out with friends, or just a place to enjoy some great tunes, The Bog is the perfect spot.

Visited the bog for a friends birthday and as expected in the current Covid climate, we had to work with the team to do table service, which was difficult but certainly manageable (and managed really well I must say). Further into the night our table began to separate our orders onto groups and it got even more difficult for us and the bar team to track our orders, as it would when the drinks were flowing. I ordered 5 drinks for myself and friends and due to miscommunication between myself and my friends I asked our staff member who served us to check how much we were paying for our round as I thought we were getting overcharged and maybe got the order wrong. I did indeed get it wrong myself and my order was correct the first time, but when I got a response from the staff I got a response of “are you off your head?” Instead of a constructive answer.

I appreciate the current climate with Covid and the governments policies is super difficult for hospitality to deal with, but that’s no excuse to be spoken to so aggressively, especially when all that was happening was making sure that we were charged corrrectly - I’ll still be coming back to the bog as it’s a stellar place, but it’s just gutting to be spoken to like that and hopefully it doesn’t...

This feedback is for your employee, Colm. I firmly believe that individuals demonstrating exemplary customer service should never go unnoticed.

In today’s competitive market, customers have the ability to choose where they spend their money. They are the fundamental component for any business to thrive and remain financially viable. Therefore, employees like Colm deserve recognition, appreciation, and fair compensation, as such talent is increasingly rare.

Our society often take time off from their hectic schedule to express dissatisfaction/complain rather than offering positive feedback.

As a regular customer, I have been consistently impressed by Colm's service since my first encounter. He greets and engages every customer with a friendly smile and never fails to exceed expectations. His demeanor is both genuine and authentic, rather than contrived. He consistently goes above and beyond to ensure that customers feel taken care of, comfortable, and able to enjoy their experience.

The customer service industry would benefit greatly from more employees like Colm. I recommend that all your staff members emulate his exemplary approach. Keep up the extraordinary work Colm, and we look forward to seeing you...
