Here’s the deal. I’ve been to the old location and it was good. Pricy but seemed worth it. Went last night for a team dinner at the new location and was keen to check it out. Food was good but I personally don’t think so for the price. When we arrived we were told we had the table till 8pm. Two hours is fine, and we were lead out to the balcony and the sun was absolutely cooking. Unfortunately there are no blinds where we sat so nothing could be done to take the edge off. Not even the offer of sunscreen. Above all, the service was probably the worst I’ve had in chch. The wait staff were rude and blunt and had an awful attitude. Grumpy. At 7:45 we were told we had to finish so they could have the table back and, having 15 minutes left we just continued to finish our drinks, when five minutes later, we were told “you have to leave now”. No finesse, they could have said something simple like can we get you guys a table in the bar to take your drinks to and have some more. We went to the bar anyway and when I ordered the second round of gin and tonic’s, specifically asking for them in a rocks glass (like gin should be served) not in a wine glass, the rude waitress said “ok so in a girls glass…” really? The last thing that ticked me off was when some drinks were left off the last order and when I approached the bar to ask the guy that had taken the order, he cut me off with “I’m finished for the night so can’t help you” and walked off, rather than apologising and getting his fellow bartender to fix us up. The food doesn’t matter when the service is that poor. I’d say none of our party of 9 will go back. Very disappointing and kind of ruined a...

Kadie(or it could have been Katie) was our server and she was absolutely delightful. She was friendly, helpful and all around awesome. She is a great asset to your KOS crew.

I'd booked the day before and made note of my husband's dietary restrictions (diet controlled Type 2 Diabetic) and you guys were amazing and making that work when we decided to go with the Trust the Chef.

We had the pleasure (so Kadie told us) of having your Head Chef plate our food and it did not disappoint (it never does).

We are so glad that we took the plunge to try this (we have our favourites we normally go with) to find some new favourites on your menu. The Moondahl Salad (sorry about the spelling) was the stand out dish for both of us. I would never have been able to convince hubby to order this, but it will definitely be included in our future King of Snake visits!

The mocktail I ordered was amazing (so often at other bars when I order a fruity mocktail they're a bit blah), the only down side being that not knowing what was in it, I can't order it again. Whatever it was, it warrants being on the menu! (it was pink and had a bit of sour to it)

As he's the diabetic and I'm not, I ordered the Sticky Date Pudding and I have to say this is probably one if not the best I've ever had. The carmel brittle sauce was next level delicous without it being too sweet. I'm already planning a dessert visit with friends so I can...

I have thought about going here for quite some time as I have heard it is very good but until now had not been. I went with my husband and 3 (adult) children for lunch to celebrate my birthday. We had a table on the balcony which was great as we were able to watch the buskers while we dined. Our waitress was lovely, very helpful with food questions/recommendations, and attentive to our needs. The plates here are share plates and we ordered wontons (2 x varieties), Sichuan Silken Fried Tofu, Crispy Fried Half Duck with Caramelised Mandarin sauce, Stir fried Beef Tenderloin with Ginger Garlic and Spinach, Pork Hock, Fried Roti, a carrot salad, and truffle fries. These are all served as share plates and come with a side plate of rice. All our dishes were delicious, and it was nice sharing the food and enjoying a taste of everything. Two of us ended with a dessert, myself opting for the Exotic Sphere of Passionfruit & Pineapple with Coconut Sorbet and White Chocolate Crumb which was absolutely divine, and my husband had Affogato which he also really enjoyed. Yes this is a bit pricey compared to some other places you can choose to dine but in my opinion, it was worth every cent, and I am looking forward...

I booked dinner with my best friend to celebrate her 28th birthday. While we were looking forward to a lovely experience, there were a few things that fell short of expectations. The wine glass we were given was chipped, and we had to request a replacement. Shortly after, we noticed that the dinner plate was also chipped and had to ask for a new one again. Even the candle holder on the table was chipped. For a venue that presents itself as elegant and refined, these small details made a noticeable difference and were quite disappointing. After dinner, we headed to Monarch for a drink and were served by Caleb, who was absolutely fantastic. He was warm, accommodating, and made us feel genuinely welcomed. The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, which added to the overall experience. I’m giving 5 stars for service purely because of Caleb—he was professional, friendly, and truly made our night feel special.

King of Snake is a modern Asian fusion restaurant perfectly located at the corner of Cambridge Terrace and Cashel Street in Christchurch. The area is lively, with riverside walks, stylish bars, and shops rebuilt after the earthquake. Parking is not allowed directly on the pedestrian street, so we left our car at a paid lot across the river, just a short walk away. Inside, the atmosphere is chic with subtle Asian touches like snake-shaped napkin rings and black-and-gold tableware. We enjoyed fresh oysters on ice, crispy fried oysters, silky Akaroa salmon, and the standout Crispy Pressed Half Duck with orange peel—crispy skin, tender meat, and a fragrant citrus note. The Penang curry beef cheek and Sichuan tofu added spice and variety. Great food, attentive service, and a stylish setting by the river—definitely one of the top dining spots in Christchurch.
