Black Friday Haul in Auckland 🛍️🔥

You'd think for the prices supermarkets charge, you would get food that isn't expired. Unfortunately that was not the experience I had today. If you've purchased Mainland Mild cheese from here since the 5th of August, it is expired. I went to swap out my brand new 1kg block (3rd Sep) and I couldn't find any 1kg blocks that weren't expired so I had to get two 500g blocks that expire Mar 2024. Of course I had to pay the $2.50 difference because packaging for the second block is expensive apparently. Additionally they have always claimed the fish section is well cleaned, but I can tell you the only time the fish section hasn't smelt bad, is after they had to do a deep clean following the cyclone floods. Unfortunately they're cheaper than my other options so I have no choice but to come back.

Shopping already tends to trigger anxiety for me, but this particular location is a whole new level of overwhelming.

The sheer volume of people makes the experience difficult to manage, and I find it especially frustrating because many customers do not make an effort to be considerate.

Despite my best efforts to stay aware of others—keeping my trolley or pram to the side, grabbing my items quickly, and moving on—most of the individuals I encounter here seem to rush through without regard for personal space, nearly bumping into me or my trolley. Additionally, the staff’s packing practices add to the frustration. Often, I find aisles blocked by packing materials or trolleys that are left in the way. This lack of organization and consideration for shoppers creates an unnecessarily cluttered and chaotic environment. The store layout itself is another significant issue. It feels as though the space is poorly optimized to handle the volume of shoppers, especially during peak hours. Despite it being quite large, the narrow aisles and crowded walkways make it difficult to move around comfortably. Parking is also a major problem. There are insufficient spaces, and the driving behavior in the car park is often reckless and frustrating, further adding to the anxiety of visiting. Solutions: • Improved Customer Etiquette Campaign: They could implement an awareness campaign encouraging customers to be more mindful of others, perhaps with signs reminding shoppers to maintain personal space and avoid rushing through crowded areas. • Better Staff Training: Staff should be trained to maintain clear aisles and more efficiently pack products in ways that prevent unnecessary obstructions. This would go a long way in creating a smoother shopping experience for everyone. • Store Layout Reconfiguration: A reevaluation of the store layout to ensure better flow of foot traffic and a more spacious, organized environment would significantly alleviate congestion and improve the overall experience. • Parking Management: they could consider expanding its parking facilities or improving the management of existing spaces to ensure more availability. Additionally, clearer signage and improved traffic flow would help make parking less stressful. • Peak Hour Scheduling: It might be helpful if they could implement a system to better manage busy times, such as scheduling specific hours for high-traffic periods, offering discounts or incentives to shop during off-peak times.

Overall, unless you're prepared for a stressful and potentially anxiety-inducing experience, I would not recommend shopping here. With some changes, however, this location could be a much more enjoyable...

Ah, Pak'nSave, a beacon bright and bold, In landscapes green, a story to unfold. No fancy frills, no whispered, soft allure, Just yellow signs that promise savings pure. From Auckland's sprawl to Invercargill's breeze, It stands a titan, built to truly please The budget-conscious, the family on the run, A place where thrifty battles can be won. Upon its floor, a symphony of sound, The rumble of trolleys, as they weave around. The clatter of crates, a rhythmic, steady beat, As stockers toil, their tasks a constant feat. The chill of freezers, where the ice creams dream, The fragrant waft of bread, a glorious gleam. From fresh-cut meats to produce piled high, A cornucopia beneath a watchful eye. The trolleys gleam, a fleet of silver gleam, Each one a vessel, for a shopper's dream. With lists clutched tight, and children in tow, They navigate the aisles, a steady flow. Through breakfast cereals, bright and sugary sweet, To tinned tomatoes, a culinary treat. From cleaning products, sparkling and so keen, To pet food bags, a furry friend's demesne. The yellow price tags, stark against the white, A clear declaration, bathed in fluorescent light. No hidden costs, no subtle, sly deceit, Just honest numbers, bitter, often sweet. You choose your bags, a choice both firm and plain, For every cent saved, a tangible gain. The "Stickman" watches, with his knowing stare, A silent promise, floating in the air. The checkout lines, a serpent long and true, Where patient shoppers wait for what they're due. The beeping scanners, a digital refrain, As groceries tallied, again and again. The swift-fingered cashiers, with their practiced grace, A friendly smile, upon each tired face. "Have a good one!" echoes, as you make your way, With bags in hand, to greet a brand new day. And out you step, into the fading light, A sense of triumph, burning ever bright. For you have conquered, the consumer's plight, And filled your pantry, with a frugal might. No grand pronouncements, no high-flown acclaim, Just honest value, whispered Pak'nSave's name. It's more than just a store, a place to buy, It's an institution, reaching for the sky. A New Zealand icon, humble and so true, For every dollar saved, a victory for you. So here's to Pak'nSave, in yellow, green, and red, The savings haven, where good value's bred! A place of plenty, simple, strong, and fair, The budget shopper's answered,...

Pak’nSave Wairau Road is a busy but reliable spot on the North Shore, especially if you’re looking to stock up without spending too much. It’s got the classic Pak’nSave setup — industrial feel, practical layout, and shelves stacked high with bulk buys and budget brands. It’s definitely focused on function over flash, but it delivers where it counts.

The store itself is pretty big, with wide aisles and a straightforward layout that makes it easy to get around, even when it’s crowded. It can get hectic during peak hours, especially weekends, but the flow of people usually moves okay once you’re inside. Stock levels are generally solid across the board, and you’ll find most things you need without too much hassle.

Pricing is the main win here. If you’re shopping on a budget or doing a big weekly haul, Wairau Road is a good choice. Specials pop up across all departments and there’s a wide range of low-cost options. The produce section can vary a bit in freshness depending on the time of day or week you go, but there’s usually enough decent stuff to get by. The meat section has a good selection at competitive prices, and the bakery covers all the basics.

Staff are around if you need them, though like most Pak’nSaves, it’s more of a self-serve environment. You won’t get a lot of personal service unless you ask, but if you do, someone will usually help out without much fuss. Checkouts can get backed up during rush hours, but they tend to keep enough lanes open and the self-service area helps ease the pressure for small shops.

Parking is where it can get a bit tricky. The carpark’s not the worst, but it does get full quickly, and navigating in and out isn’t always smooth. If you go outside the busiest times, it’s a lot easier.

Like most other Pak’nSaves, the online stock doesn’t always match what’s in-store, so flexibility is your friend.

Overall, Pak’nSave Wairau Road is a solid go-to for affordable groceries on the Shore. It’s not fancy and it’s not quiet, but if you’re all about stretching your budget and getting everything in one hit, it’s a practical choice that usually gets...
