MIX IT DJ — Attraction in Waitematā

We hired Mix It DJ for our wedding on July 5th, 2024, and unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfactory. Despite detailed instructions provided to Jarrod and our DJ, Guy, several key aspects of our special day were mishandled.

Firstly, we requested that our first dance song be followed by another slow song before transitioning to party music. Instead, there was a period where the music stopped, and Guy came onto the dance floor to ask if we wanted another slow song next. This had already been communicated in our emails with Jarrod, and we were assured that this was understood. Additionally, during the dance portion of the night, the music stopped altogether while Guy was away from his gear, which created a disturbance and stopped the dancing.

We also clearly communicated the importance of incorporating a few slow songs throughout the night so our older guests could join us for a dance. This request was ignored and myself and my MC had to ask him to play some slow songs throughout the night. This was incredibly disappointing as we had emphasized that this was a non-negotiable aspect of our wedding. Our request to have modern instrumentals played during the dining hour was also ignored.

Communication was also problematic. There was an instance where Jarrod sent us an email meant for another client with the same name, causing unnecessary confusion and stress. This lack of attention to detail was indicative of the overall service we received.

Additionally, we asked for more information about the DJ selected for us and if we could see his portfolio or have his last name to look up his work we were told no and that they don’t have profiles on their DJs. We were reassured that Jarrod was "very familiar with their DJs' strengths and music repertoire and that choosing the right DJ for each client was his specialty." Throughout all of our communication with Jarrod, we felt unheard and i was made to feel like a bridezilla for asking for basic requests and information for OUR wedding.

Additionally, we had specifically requested a DJ proficient in mixing music, but we did not receive this at all. There was no mixing of songs together, which was what we expected from an experienced DJ service. We could have done this ourselves or just used a Spotify playlist.

On a more positive note, the party music that was played consisted of good classic dance songs, and Guy was friendly. When we asked him to alter the music to our preferences of what had been pre-arranged, he did listen.

Given the reputation of Mix It DJ and the premium price we paid, we expected a professional and attentive service. Unfortunately, the DJ failed to read the crowd as promised, and our requests were largely ignored.

Following our wedding, I emailed Jarrod with this feedback. His response was dismissive, defending their actions without offering any solution or attempt to rectify the situation.

We hope that Mix It DJ will take this feedback seriously and make the necessary improvements to ensure future clients do not face similar disappointments.

Thank you for your response to our review. However, I must address several inaccuracies and mischaracterizations in your reply.

Firstly, I find it disheartening that you chose to attack my character and imply that I was the problem rather than addressing the legitimate concerns I raised. Such an approach is unprofessional and dismissive.

At no point did we "micromanage" or "control" every aspect of your service. We provided clear and reasonable instructions well in advance of what we were wanting for our music. Your implication that our requests caused your DJ to feel apprehensive is unfounded.

We trusted your expertise and process, but unfortunately, the service provided fell short of the expectations promised by your company. Our feedback is not a result of misunderstanding your services but rather a reflection of the subpar experience we had. Dismissing concerns and attacking a client's character is not the way to handle...

Working with Jarrod was an absolute pleasure. We first booked Mix It DJ in 2019 but our wedding was delayed until 2022 due to Covid. He was a man of his words. He kept the contract we originally signed and gave us no grieve at all for the delays. We stayed with Jarrod and it was the best decision we've ever made. The entire process was stress free. Our DJ Eli was amazing. He was spot on with all the music choices and more importantly, he nailed all the timing. Eli's professionalism and composure was reassuring on the day. He also had a great sense of humour that made it so easy for anyone to work with him on the day. Eli also took the initiative to coordinate with the celebrant and MC for the day. He made sure that we did not have to anything our big day. His performance that night made our wedding day perfect.

We also made various additional request including music entry for each members of the bridal party during reception time and a surprise dance towards the end of the night. Eli played the best bit of every songs and lit up the atmosphere in the reception. Jarrod was more than happy to accommodate any request without a single question. It was as simple as filling up the form he provided. Jarrod also helped us with securing a MC 3 weeks before the wedding. It was something that we completely overlooked and Jarrod sorted it out within minutes. The MC was a great addition, reasonably priced and most definitely added live to our party. If you are looking for a DJ, I strongly urge you to go with Mix It DJ. Don't even think about it. Make your wedding planning easier by signing up with Mix It DJ early on. You will not regret it!

Just wanted to thank Stephen for the amazing job he did at our wedding in January 2016! We organised our whole wedding from Sydney so it was really important to pick a DJ we could trust. Mix it DJ was recommended to us by several of our other suppliers and we couldn't be happier with our choice. All we had to do was fill out a simple form indicating the type of music we like and Stephen handled the rest. Stephen was very professional, but equally important was the party atmosphere he created with his music. So many of my relatives and friends (who normally hate dancing!) were on the dancefloor all night and didn't want to leave! Stephens ability to 'read the room' and play the music that the guests loved that kept them on the dancefloor was amazing! One tip to anyone using Mix it DJ - don't create a set playlist, let the DJs demonstrate their creative skills. They will quickly be able to figure out what music your guests like and at what points of the night to play the songs you like to keep the...
