I appreciate the eclecticism of the collections. It’s good that we have stores like this. However I had a $500 gift card for 2 years and could never find anything I wanted. I’m sure a lot of other people wouldn’t have had that issue, because it’s a matter of taste, but 2 years? Eventually I asked for a refund for the gift card because I had been trying so long to find something. They refused. So I just went into the store to get it over with and I did find one thing that suited that I’m very happy with. However the sales person was so pushy and was completely unable to read any of my or my wife’s cues or body language that we did not want her help. We’ve been super excited to shop at the poi room for awhile now. And went in to purchase a farewell gift for close friends. We wanted to gift them something with deep Te Ao Māori meaning. However we were bitterly disappointed when asking the shop assistant about various pieces, they were first unable to pronounce words correctly and secondly had no knowledge or background on any of the pieces. Something to which I know is important to Māori. It made us incredibly uncomfortable when they went to google what certain basic designs represented. It is saddening that your staff have very limited cultural competency. particularly given they are selling Māori artwork. You would hope this would be a bare minimum requirement for your business. Ladies in the store, both via email and in-person are super friendly and helpful. Wonderful pieces, hard to pick one only (Ofc failed to pick only what I went for). Whether for ownself or as a gift, there are some beautiful pieces of art can be found there from local artists. It’s worth to both check the website and pay a visit and look around as I found some products in the store which was not on the website and also the other way around. Lovely store with nice...
