Amazing museum. Great experience. Initially we went there to get out of the rain but it turned out to be well worth it. The museum in FREE, the coffee and tea are FREE and the restrooms are FREE (if youve been in Norway long enough then you know that all of these are big deals). And the hospitalielty is amazing. They provide you with translations in many different languages. If you like history, and especially military history, this is the place for you. Will definitely go back if ever in...

Super museum. No idea that it was going to be so extensive, and particularly liked the critical look at history rather than being one sided or purely factual. Virtually everything has been painstakingly translated into English - yes you need to read most of this from a book. This is not the kind of place you go if you are into museums with touchy feely interactive stuff - it's pretty heavy going for the most part so that may or may not suit you. I visited the resistance exhibition which details the Bergen resistance groups. The exhibit is extensive and detailed, lots of artifacts from the time, original documents, newspapers, equipment, messages from SOE, German propaganda and Norwegian illegal press. Most of the exhibit is in dual language with English and Norwegian with complete translations in English, French, Italian and German....

The museum is over three floors. Some information on the main boards is in English, there are booklets in English and many other languages that are numbered so it's easy to follow. A well appointed and laid out, very informative. Friendly staff. Free tea, coffee and water, with table and chairs to sit at. Toilets, very clean and pleasant. And the really big one the museum is Free to get in to!.

Well, the great thing about this museum is it's free, a rare thing to find in Norway. Museum is organised across 3 floors. Ground floor focuses on Norway's involvement in the UN operations around the World. First floor is the primary and best exhibition focusing on the resistance movement between 1940-45. Second Floor focuses on the history of the Fortress.
