I booked a table 3 days ago to come as a group of 8 to celebrate having my family visiting. We were sat downstairs at the pub area. Let’s start with food quality 195kr each starters are tapas size, they are on average priced right. Portion is good depending on what you are ordering. They are tasty and were the highlights of the night. Mains are priced on the expensive side — fish dishes are close to 500kr each and reindeer filet almost 600kr. The prince fish dish were really disappointing — it has almost no flavour and overcooked. With a fish at 500kr , I expected much more but the sauce is blend and comes with 4 small potatoes also without much seasoning. It’s an underachieving dish coming from such an old restaurant and at this price point. I have not tried the other dishes so no comment. We ordered 3 dessert to share, they are at a whopping 175kr each came in a small portion family style container, I think they can and should do better considering it’s so expensive for what it actually is. It made me feel like I have fallen in a tourist trap instead of paying a visit to a reputable restaurant with a history. Service This area is the main reason why I left a 2.5 star review. This visit had given me a bad impression of the place and I will not return. First of all, as I arrived I asked the bar about whether we can sit upstairs, the bar person talked down on me and stated that we are not big enough of a group to do so, which I was surprise because the pub area is tiny and our table was spilled out to the door entrance next to me. I asked if 8 ppl table is too small for them and then it was said that only 30 ppl group can sit upstairs. I think it could be explained better instead of being condescending to the customers who spend 8000kr in 2 hours. Then it was the ordering. First person came and went and a new person came again to take orders. It was our first time here and the menu was a bit confusing for tourists so we needed sometime. But the waiter came back and forth a few times to place orders instead of giving us enough time to discuss. So we ordered starters and drinks first. Having said that they explained well the starter dishes so it was not all bad, however they took away most of our menus after ordering starters so we were left with 2 menus for 8 ppl to order main dishes. Then we were pushed multiple times to purchase more and more alcohol even though we already order one drink each plus a bottle of wine. The service felt pushy and rushed, almost like the server is given commission to sell more alcohol. One dish we ordered didn’t come and after apologising in the same breath, we were asked if we needed a drink AGAIN. I thought I would give this place a go instead of always going to Enhjørningen but seems like I will just have to go back to them because of their consistent good service and dishes.

We came to this restaurant twice in two days because they have many traditional Norwegian dishes. We tried the Persetorsk which is exceptionally good. We also tried stockfish here as we can’t find other restaurants in Bergen having this dish. It’s not as tasty as Persetorsk though, maybe because it’s dryer by nature thus less juicy, but you get the original stockfish taste. The other dishes we tried were cold dishes: roasted whale, venison pate, marinated lamb filet and reindeer tartar. Trusted me, the lamb filet is a must-try if you like raw meat. The reindeer tartar is exceptionally good already, but the marinated lamb is the best. It is really soft and smooth and the marinate source fuses deeply into the lamb. Note that if you come at lunch time, you can only choose from the lunch menu. There’re not many choices at that time in my opinion. Lastly, the staff are friendly too.

We had a really nice and relaxing dinner at this traditional restaurant in Bergen. First, the ambiance is really amazing. The building is very old, and has been very nicely restored. The rooms are cozy and softly lit at night. The best part of our experience was definitely the service. Our waitress took the time to explain the menu to us and make some recommendations, and she made sure that we were comfortable and happy with every choice from the menu. The food was excellent! We especially enjoyed the stock fish, the marinated smoked salmon, and the traditional fish soup. Prices are a bit high, but we did not feel bad about the bill, because we had such a great experience. They have a huge list of local beers and ciders, and a good wine list, too. We would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone visiting the area.

Absolutely delicious traditional norwegian food, and exceptional service. I stumbled upon this restaurant when trying to find somewhere for dinner the one night I was in Bergen. The waitstaff were extremely helpful and friendly. I personally love knowing the history behind my food, and the menu describes both the history and the composition / flavor palette of each dish in detail. This was particularly helpful for me who is relatively uneducated on norwegian cuisine. I asked the waiter for plenty more details about the dishes and drinks, and he was happy to answer my questions and describe everything to me! He even offered me half portions of two of the akevitt types they have so that I could try them both. One of the most knowledgeable and personable waitstaff i’ve encountered (and all in a second language!). I had the spiced herring as a starter and Persetorsk as my main, and they were both absolutely delicious. Perfectly prepared & paired, in my opinion! They suggest 4-5 tapas per person for a full meal or a few tapas plus a main, but one starter plus the main was absolutely plenty for me, I left full & happy :-). No meager portions here (they also give you plenty of bread and butter). The ambience is also lovely. Stellar all around, in my opinion, and very similar price point to the other restaurants in the area. Just a note on payment, in case you, like me, have not encountered this before - when you are asked to type in your total, THAT is the moment to add an amount to your bill to leave as tip. I thought there would be an option after the confirmation of the price, but I was wrong and thus was unable to tip the workers, who were all awesome. Don’t make my mistake there and definitely make it a mission to go here while...

We recently visited your restaurant as part of a trip organised by a travel agency. I would like to share some feedback regarding our experience.

My wife arrived with some concerns, as she had heard that there might be rats under the wooden structures, and she is very afraid of them. When we entered, we also noticed a musty smell in the air, which did not create a very pleasant first impression.

We tried the traditional fish soup, which we had never tasted before. We actually enjoyed it, and it was an interesting experience for us.

During the meal, I offered a little homemade drink to my friends. At that moment, a tall young waitress approached us and asked, in a rather humiliating tone in front of my friends, what was in the glass. I was embarrassed and simply replied “coffee”. This approach felt very unpleasant and left a negative impression on me.

The second course was lamb steak, nicely presented, but half of our group does not like raw meat. We believe that serving such a divisive dish to foreign guests, especially without explaining in advance how it would be prepared, was not the best choice.

In the end, we left the main course untouched and decided to leave the restaurant. We have also informed the travel agency about...
