A 3 stars review for a 3 stars “hotel” and I’m quoting hotel because it barely passes as a hotel. Anyway, as many other reviewers have said, the location is the main advantage to City Box bergen. The hotel is located in a very convenient location, 10 minutes walk from the harbor, 10 minutes from Bryggen, and with Kiwi (convenience store) right in front of it. Rima (another store) as well as 7/11 just within 5 minutes walk. 4/5 stars for the location due to not having much else in the area. The staff seemed to be okay, their office is somewhere in the back but with a check in terminal, you would not really need staff’s help as much. Service and staff get 3 stars for the lack of “welcoming” feeling. Citybox Bergen has a locker to store your luggage (I wouldn’t recommend it), kitchen area equipped with coffee machine and vending machine, and chilling space with TV, couch, and books. Now, the room was my biggest let down during my stay. I have booked a double room and got a very small and claustrophobic 12sqm room with the bed raking the vast majority of it. It was a struggle to move around, have a proper place to sit, or open up my luggage. The room looked absolutely nothing like the pictures. The room had no amenities whatsoever. You get 2 plastic cups, 1 towel set, hand soap, a hairdryer, and god-knows-what in the shower to wash your hair. It was a locked up black container with no labels. It was 26c in Bergen and the thermostat in the room was merely a decorative unit. The lowest you could adjust was 22c, and did absolutely nothing. With a small room, defective cooling system, and a small back alley window, you better off staying by the sea… The bed was okay, too soft and offers no back support at all. So if you got back issues, I wouldn’t recommend it. The pillows were soft too and pillow covers had red stains, I hope it was just makeup or painting stain and not bl**d. The walls are extremely thin that you could hear the people in the corridors and when the phone rings in their rooms. My neighbors were loud and yelling till midnight which was frustrating especially when you’re already hot and uncomfortable. The “hotel” is built on providing the minimum to qualify as a hotel while cutting costs right and left such as the lack of reception, defective cooling, old and grey linty beddings, no room service, no breakfasts (you can get breakfast at a partner cafe), zero complementaries, and even the water faucet was restricted so you can’t have really hot/cold water. I know Norway is generally expensive but with 130€ a night, you don’t get much value for your money. The hotel is suitable for a young solo/couple light packers who just need a bed to sleep with zero expectations of comfort. If I come to Bergen again, I’ll look for a better place to stay and keep City Box as a later resort for the convenient location.

Not clean, extremely noisy and terrible temperature control. I’ve stayed a total of 12 times with both citybox hotels in Bergen averaging 3-5 times per stay in the last two years. I’m so disappointed in what this one has become. I was asked to switch from the Danmarksplass location to this hotel. Something about the municipality needing it or won’t release it. I thought no problem and I was very wrong. This location was quite run down in comparison, carpets smelled and everything creaked. The location is great but … it comes with yelling drunks, garbage trucks and seagulls shrieking between 3-5 am in the morning. Add to that the traffic noise, the open air opera performance and the impossible to adjust climate control in an attic room led to no sleep and extreme discomfort. The room was not very clean (the bathroom had stray hairs etc). I had to wipe it all down with disinfecting wipes. The last straw was when I found out the hotel was being used as a quarantine facility and for short term rental. Oh and construction was to be expected. Found out while in the lift. No prior communication whatsoever. I checked out one day early and found another hotel. I’ve now cancelled all remaining bookings for the year and will never stay here again.

We had a 3 night stay. Check in was easy and uncomplicated. Early check in & check out possible (if you register as „Citybox friend” it is free). You can get unlimited towels, there are plenty on each floor. Lobby includes snack machine, kettle and paper plates, cutlery etc. Lobby also offers 48h umbrella rental for 30 nok (u will need one so either buy a small one or borrow one). Kiwi supermarket (tidiest supermarket ever, they literally rotate each bottle and can to face the right direction) directly opposite, open until 11pm. Good location, 10 min from everything. 5 min walk near fountain to major malls, restaurants, etc. You can eat and prepare some food in the microwave in the lobby. Nearby parking (Grieggarasjen) next building costs 280nok per 24h and offers many charging ports, a bit further a more dirty parking garage for around 230nok. Park in Grieggarasjen, it’s better… Some parking spots in front of the building, 64kr for two hours. Room quiet, 4 pillows, double bed. It was clean. Only negative thing is a leaky shower: the bathroom floor is wet after every short shower (can be fixed with the free towels in the hallway though…)
