Read moreMount Fløyen was the highlight of our four days in Bergen. The funicular (Fløibanens) was efficient, although packed on this Sunday morning in August. (Definitely buy tickets online in advance to join the shorter line-up.) But crowds thinned out somewhat as we walked from the top Fløyen station to Lake Skomakerdiket, and significantly fewer visitors onward to Brushytten.
Excellent café on Lake Skomakerdiket to enjoy the view and watch canoes (apparently free to use) on the small lake.
The main trails we followed were mostly easy to walk (gravel) and had picturesque settings at every turn. Light to moderate incline but a couple of steeper spots near Brushytten. The woodlands along the route were enchanting (photos really can't capture that beauty!). Mount Blåmanen's shear rock face at Brushytten was majestic. A few excellent viewpoints of Bergen city. Nice side excursions, such as the small Lake Revurtjernet, although too muddy for us to walk completely around on the day we visited (heavy rain two days earlier).
We walked down from Mount Fløyen, an enjoyable and easy journey to Bergen city. The route was paved but mostly still had a woodsy feel. Further down, Bergen's switchback streets challenged our navigation a couple of times.
For a close view of the funiculars climbing and descending the mountain, be sure to walk by Skansemyren station at Nordre Skansemyren.
