Sadly, for the location and atmosphere, was expecting so much more from the food. First, it took a while for our server to first approach us. We had to ask for water from someone else. We put our entire order in, apps, drinks, and main course at the same time. Our apps came out timely, they were a cold dish, and tasted good. I watched the table next to us then put in their order. We finished our appetizers, the table next to us got their main course and were able to completely fish eating their food and our main course still hadn't arrived. We watched our server move around the entire place a lot but never came back to the table during that time. Another person came to clear our app plates so I asked to check on our food. She returned saying they are preparing it. I then watched the kitchen which is visible, prepare plates for a table of 20. So they couldn't have been preparing our food. After a while of waiting, I got up from the table and found our server to request that if the food had not been started, to cancel the order. She said she would check with the kitchen. She came to our table to say they would just have to plate the food and that would take very short amount of time. So they were not working on the food when the first server told us so. When the food came out, it was luke warm/even cool in my mouth. If they had just plated it, how could it be luke warm? A corner of my fish was actually cold. I thought the flavor was good but was just seasoning at that point considering the temp. What it seems it that our waiter/kitchen forgot to push the main course through after our apps. We got put behind a 20 top when we reminded them about us. Then, I don't know for sure, but watching them plate 20 plates then getting ours out in a matter of seconds once they actually started working on it, it being luke warm, along with striploin can only be ordered medium or well done, appears the food is pre-cooked and then sits in warmers. That does not align with the prices and atmosphere. They took 25% off the tab for the misshap. We didn't finish the loin plate, I ate the fish because flavor was good, not plated as well as the order before us. I get it, things happen but if they made a mistake, comp the entire dish. Especially since we requested to cancel ahead of it being prepared. Would not go back mainly since the food was not...
Read moreDining with a View at Mount Fløyen, Bergen**
Located atop the stunning Mount Fløyen in Bergen, this restaurant offers a truly unique dining experience, especially if you're lucky enough to catch the sunset or aurora borealis on a clear evening. The view is absolutely breathtaking, making the trip up via the Fløibanen funicular feel worth every penny, but the dining experience itself leaves room for improvement.
The food showcases technical skill—it's clear the kitchen team knows their craft. We really enjoyed the dry aged beef. However, while dishes are well-executed, there's something missing that could elevate the experience from good to unforgettable. It's as though the heart or final touch of flavor to tie everything together is absent. The desserts, while beautifully presented, also left us wanting just a bit more depth or contrast.
What stood out as a point of frustration, though, was the wine service. With an impressive display of wine showcased at the entrance loft, you'd expect a level of expertise from the waitstaff. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case during our visit. The waitress who served us was kind, honest, and hospitable, but she seemed to lack even basic wine knowledge. For a restaurant that patrons pay extra to access via the funicular, there's an expectation of a more refined experience.
I’d strongly recommend that the restaurant invest in educating their staff on basic wine pairings, as it would make a significant difference in the overall dining experience. With such a gorgeous location and strong culinary foundation, a few small changes could truly transform this restaurant into...
Read moreI have travelled the world extensively over 40 years. I ate at all restaurants ranging from pop & mom’s to Michelin three stars. This is my honest review of the restaurant Florestauranten, Bergen, Norway.
This restaurant is located right at the top station of the funicular above Bergen, making it the natural stop for most visitors. As expected, it can get quite busy, especially on the bar side, but we were kindly seated in the restaurant area where it was easier to find a table.
We only had dessert and a hot drink, but it was a pleasant experience. The berry tart was beautifully prepared, with a crisp pastry base, smooth vanilla cream, a scoop of ice cream, and fresh berry accompaniments. A simple but very enjoyable treat at a fair price, making it well worth a stop at the top.
The restaurant and building have been renovated in recent years, and the facilities feel modern and high-quality. Service was friendly and efficient despite the crowds. Overall, a nice spot to enjoy something sweet with the great views after the...
