The staff is watching you while you eat, on camera, and record it. If you dare to take a bite of someone else's food, you get accused of stealing. Yes, truly! So go ahead. Enjoy your meal... The food was also very bland and tasteless, and took a long time to get served.
2 people at my table had the buffet. I tasted a small bite of 3 different types of food from them. Just a minor taste, while I myself had ordered something from the menu. The waitress came over when we were almost done eating, telling me I had eaten from the buffet food, and that wasn't allowed. I asked if she was serious... I had just tasted small bites. Yes, they had been watching me on the cameras, she said! I could come look if I wanted to, as it was recorded! They were a restaurant, she said, not some place giving out free food and tasters. And I could not eat food I hadn't paid for, it was stealing! She actually compared it to tasting food in a grocery store, that you didn't buy... And kept saying I was stealing and should apologise for having done something wrong. I did not apologise, and I told her I did not agree with her reasoning. Had I filled my plate from my kids buffet food, or eaten several whole pieces of food, absolutely. That would be wrong. But she started raising her voice, and kept on telling me I had stolen food and that a bite was considered eating from the buffet.
You have to pay 50 kr per 100 gram of food you leave on your plate if you eat from the buffet. Which is fine, cause less food waste is good! Except another review mentions being told it's stealing if you bring your leftovers with you, even the small stuff on your plate. Saying you can't bring leftovers from a buffet; no problem! That's normal. Telling someone it's considered stealing to bring your own, paid for half-eaten food? Not ok.
We were told in advance about having to pay for any uneaten food on their plates, and that the one not paying for the buffet could not eat the buffet food. That's all fine. But hey. Maybe you should have a big sign that says you can't even taste a bite! Cause that is truly not logical, at all. There is a huge difference between someone bringing food with the intention of feeding another person at their table, and letting another person taste a small bite of something they happened to eat from their meal.
I paid for everything in advance, as I paid the whole bill. But to be fair, that's besides the point. I only tasted a small bite of 3 pieces of food that my kids had already eaten from. Bites. In total, maybe the size of a chicken wing. Why are they actively surveilling you while you eat?? That is very triggering to some people, and not OK, regardless. It's creepy! And wrong. I find it hard to believe they've had so much trouble with people eating for free from the buffet that they need to watch people like that. I'm all for not allowing people to sneak eat free food. But just barely tasting a couple of things, while also buying your own food from the menu? That is a normal thing to do, and does not lose the restaurant money. On the contrary, it may gain them another buffet guest. Use some common sense to actually filter out the people stealing food! My kids got very uncomfortable and triggered by the angry waitress, the fact that they were secretly filmed and the crazy accusations. They were scared they were going to call the police and that we were in real trouble, and they couldn't understand why (obviously!). They kept asking the waitress what she was going to do, but she kept going on. It only ended because we left!
This restaurant should spend their time on filtering out the actual thieves, not scare kids by being unreasonable and creepy to honest, paying customers. Absolutely horrendous behaviour, and to be completely honest, I was shocked. And then angry and disgusted, once the whole experience had a chance to sink in.
Do not go here! There are way better sushi/Asian restaurants in Bergen, with way better food...
Read moreI visited this restaurant 3 times since they opened last June 2024 and the 3rd was so special because we celebrated my sister 40th birthday. This time, I chose noodles soup #118, which is so fantastic and mouth watery with 1664 blanc beer, while the other guest chose buffet. I am not a sushi master but Kin sushi is great compared from others. If delicious, Oh yes, keep coming back🤣.
The place is pleasant, simple, clean toilet and have a corner for children playing room. As a customer service worker , I don't expect a lot when entering this restaurant I just want to try, enjoy the food without judging from the reviews. I am surprised that I experienced the proper and exceptional asian service.
The restaurant was so busy, but they still managed to assist my crazy plan. Thank you for making her birthday simple but special❤️. I truly appreciate your thoughtfulness, kindness, good service, and patience. I will send all my tourist passengers to your restaurant.I will come back again. This guys...
Read moreI visited KIN Bergen a few days ago. I was excited because I like trying new restaurants, and I thought their 'food waste' concept at the buffet sounded interesting and sustainable. So why only three stars? First of all, I was served a different dish from what I ordered. I decided to order from the ala carte menu. I ordered a red curry, but instead, I received a light-colored, liquid, runny soup served in a tall bowl with a spoon (it seemed to me like a classic tom kha gai soup!). When I mentioned this to the waitress, she insisted that the dish was a red curry. How can a thin, runny and light soup be considered a red curry? Anyway, the food I was served was lukewarm. It wasn't fantastic, but it was good enough. The staff was polite but clearly had some language difficulties. As for the interior, I expected a little more elaborate design. It appeared a bit run down, despite being a newly opened restaurant. On the bright side, the prices...
