Great coffee, which was as expected given the quality of this part of the overall service provided has not changed over the years. The first time I visited this cafe was in mid-2011 and I have been here several times over the years I was living in Bergen, but not so often nowadays given that I live in the sunny side of the country, Oslo. I recently returned to Bergen for a long weekend and naturally I wanted to visit this cafe before I left the city, which I did. As I mentioned, the coffee was great, but the service has completely gone down the drain. I have to ask, why the pretentiousness from the people working there who’s only job is to serve coffee and food? The attitude of the big headed people working there was more than enough to turn me off from visiting this place again, no matter how many more awards they win. This is a small coffee shop in Bergen, not London, Paris or Berlin, or even the global coffee capital of the world, Melbourne……Maybe they might be a bit depressed given the whole Corona affair, but I highly doubt this. So, for those reading this and looking for a place to have a coffee in Bergen, there are plenty of other good coffee shops in town, maybe with fewer awards from over the years, but they definitely provide a better overall cafe experience than this venue. Goodluck and perhaps take a look at yourselves and try to return to your roots of 10 years ago……Mvh.

Located right around the corner of my hotel is Kaffemisjonen, a pretty popular and often recommended coffee spot at Bergen (fun fact: their barista won a few competitions - hence their stellar reputation). Got there pretty soon after opening time and place was packed already. Ambiance was very calm and cozy, though it got a bit noisy from the guests’ conversation. After looking at their impressive single origin collections, I decided to try their v60 (60NOK). The Ethiopian roast had a nice floral aroma, balanced with juicy stone fruit notes. I also got a carrot cake (65NOK), which was very moist and decadent. It was good but got a bit too sweet after a few bites.

Wow. We had one of the best meals we’ve ever eaten at Kaffemisjonen. The hummus sandwich was absolutely delicious. Every vegetable was vibrant in color and tasted fresh from the garden. We shared a brownie and a piece of cheesecake for dessert and both were absolutely divine in texture and flavor. I would highly recommend stopping here for lunch. There is limited seating, but it wasn’t long before we were able to move from the bar to a booth by the window with the sun shining in on us. It is a very cozy and comfortable place to share a meal, a coffee, and a conversation. The staff was was very friendly and helpful as well.

The quality of the coffee is surely great! The daily coffee had plenty of flavour. However, the service could be better! First of all, we order a to-go cup, and the barista (female) fill the cup 2/3. We ask for heated milk, but she wouldnt heat a sip of milk because of the "waste" (even though there were 20+ customers, and surely someone else will order a cup within the next 5 minutes). This is a problem, because a dash of heated milk, even if some goes to waste, is NOT what will make an unprofitable business. The fact that we might not come back because of this, IS bad business. Give the customer what he/she wants, we pay a high price for a very simple product, and a dash of heated milk is expected to come with a...

Wonderful little coffeeshop in Bergen.

Beautiful aesthetic with clean lines, tasteful art and simple design. This is a great spot to work while enjoying a delicious cup of coffee before enjoying the rest that Bergen has to offer. They also have a small but varied sampling of pastries both savory and sweet.

They have a wide variety of single origin beans that the baristas will skillfully prepare in any way you take your coffee. I personally enjoy pourovers and had one of the best cups of coffee in a while.

The baristas are kind, welcoming, and knowledgable about their beans. They also have clean bathrooms for those interested.

We will definitely be back the next time...
