Beautiful collection of small harbours all connected to the sea, great restaurants serving local delicacies including fish, extremely popular ice cream, there were queues round the block at Dolly Dimples, and other local favourites. You can stroll for miles and there are pretty bridges between the zones which provide great vantage points for pictures. Very Instagrammable... It's very accessible and mostly flat, with seating along the waterside and a very easy stroll back along either side to get back to the cruise ship docks. Look out for fascinating graffiti artworks dotted around to add to the creative atmosphere. If you keep going along the Bryggen until you see a green park and head left you will end up in the town.

A beautiful and orderly "fish market" that's more than a market. The surrounding area is a really beautifully maintained little marina with lots of outdoor seating for customers to enjoy the view of the water and boats while eating food from the fish market and surrounding restaurants. If you're not going on a cruise excursion, it's a really short walk to this area and it has convenient bridges and trails to the other parts of town that are really really worth seeing. I would almost recommend skipping excursions and just enjoy walking through this area to the rest of Kristiansand to enjoy the wonderful sights and vibe of this great place!

Great stop to walk with a tour guide and learn about the history of this seaport. Then and Now tour discussed the early days of the port, quartering of the militia and the fires that took down the city resulting in building codes of brick and mortar rather than wood. College town, beautiful walkways and parks and this Fish Market selling everything briny.

We arrived with the cruise ship. If you walk from the terminal, you'll be at the market in a few minutes. It is not particularly large, but inside there is a considerable selection of super fresh fish and seafood. Unfortunately, there is also whale meat, which we have a problem with buying, but everyone should decide for themselves.

The very last thing I had to do Is buy shrimp and the fish house. The guy was great behind the counter. He gave me fresh shrimp of the day, bread and lemon, and they even had goat cheese. I took awesome pics of the fish house and area. Check out the big piece of ice that can fall. They knocked down after.

The location is convenient to to the cruise port. Staff was friendly and helpful, made sure we understood the menu and were appropriately attentive. The food was fresh and delicious. Portions were great. Beer was cold and refreshing. Lovely atmosphere, would absolutely recommend.
