Edited 24.8.2024 to reflect updated visit We returned to Amigos while they have their full menu, and let me tell you the difference it makes to eat there outside of tourist season. We ordered the tacos de cochinita, and two enchiladas, as well as guacamole and their chips and dip from the appetizers. There wasn't a single item there that wasn't absolutely delicious. The tacos were incredibly flavorful and tender, and the enchiladas were fantastic. Each salsa is made in house, and they have many different spice levels you can choose from (of which we got to taste 5 thanks to our server being excited to share them with us). The server also came back multiple times to chat, tell us about the history and changes of Amigos itself, and take feedback about last visit.
One thing I've noticed is a lot of people complaining about the food under the new owner, but after talking to our server and enjoying tonight's meal so much, I realize it's just because people aren't used to authentic flavor. Nachos have been a staple of this restaurant for the 30 years they've been open, and Norwegians don't have as high of a liking for spice as I've noticed, so the changes they're making to bring more authentic flavors to Amigos isn't going over well with the regulars. And the summer menu is watered down to what we had, flavorless and boring, because of tourism and making things easier on the kitchen. Which is unfortunate, as they have fantastic food on the off season and it deserves to be known.
I will also say the atmosphere felt much better today as well, with the music not as loud as it was the last time. And while it's still a mess of multiple Latin aesthetics for both music and decor choices, you can see the charm and feel how much the staff cares about the restaurant. We'll absolutely be coming back to try more of the menu.
OLD REVIEW FROM 8.7.2024 Ordered two Pollo a la Parilla, as it was the only thing on the menu besides nachos, ceviche or a burger. The rice was flavorless, there seemed to be no seasoning on the chicken itself, and it was drowning in cheese. I don't know what beans were made to make the frijoles, but there weren't enough on the plate for me to make a decision on if they were actually good. The pickled red onions on top weren't even pickled long enough, they still had quite a raw onion taste to them and were very crunchy still. I don't expect proper Mexican food while in Norway, but I at least expected flavor.
The menu was also cut due to it being the summer months, despite the recent menu update online showing from a month ago with the full menu. This means half the menu choices are nachos, and you don't have the chance to try enchiladas, burritos or fajitas, which are all the typical dishes I think of when it comes to most Mexican restaurants I've been to.
If you've had proper Mexican food before, don't bother coming and being disappointed here. But if you don't know better, this is the...
Read moreAmazing restaurant! The food was delicious – Every dish was bursting with flavor and there was something perfect for everyone at the table. But what truly made the night unforgettable was the service. The staff weren’t just friendly – they were downright hilarious! They managed to keep us laughing the entire evening while still being attentive and professional. It felt less like eating at a restaurant and more like being welcomed into a family gathering with great food and great humor. The warm, welcoming atmosphere, the delicious food, and the one-of-a-kind service make this, without a doubt, the best restaurant in Norway. Highly recommended – we’ll...
