Mebuyan's Vessel is a large-scale art installation by Filipino artist Leeroy New. It is inspired by Bagobo mythology and honors the ancient spirit of the divine feminine, named Mebuyan, the goddess of death and fertility in Filipino culture and tradition. The Mebuyan's Vessel is a spaceship-like structure made of metal framing, bamboo, and plastic discards. It is situated on the beach of San Juan, La Union, Philippines. The installation is both a sculpture and a docufiction, and it aims to challenge the La Union locals in distinguishing what is alien in and around them, so they can once again find their way back home. The Mebuyan's Vessel was first installed in 2021 at Black Rock City in Nevada as part of the Burning Man Project. It was later moved to San Juan, La Union, where it is now a permanent tourist attraction. The Mebuyan's Vessel is a powerful and evocative work of art that celebrates the beauty and creativity of the Philippines. It is a reminder of the power of art to bring people together and to inspire us to dream big. Here are some facts about Mebuyan's Vessel: • It is 25 meters (82 feet) tall and 30 meters (98 feet) wide. •It is made of metal framing, bamboo, and plastic discards. •It was inspired by Bagobo mythology and honors the ancient spirit of the divine feminine, named Mebuyan. •It was first installed in 2021 at Black Rock City in Nevada as part of the Burning Man Project. •It is now a permanent tourist attraction in San Juan, La Union, Philippines.

Very nice installation on a beach area! Mebuyan Vessel boasts its unique concept with the use of recycled plastic materials, wood and steel—in relation to the wake-up call for all tourists and locals alike regarding the increasing coastal problems. No entrance fee. Come as you may. Take photos and read the posters as well! Accessible only thru the besch, you can pass by the narrow shortcut on Kabsat's wall fence.

Interesting Find…walking along San Juan Beach, we came upon this out-of-the-ordinary art installation that brings awareness to the value and importance of water…hats off to the artists who came up with such a creative idea!

Mebuyan's vessel is an eclectic piece of art that's like a massive igloo made of recycled plastic bottles and split bamboo lashed together with twine, wire, nails and whatever will hold all these together. It's been put together by an artist Leeroy Neww as an homage to the goddess of the underworld...
