Tadeusz Kantor (1915–90) – one of the most important theatrical artists and reformers of the 20th century – chose Kraków as the place both to work and live in. Although the premieres of the legendary Cricot 2 Theatre were held in various European cities and the productions travelled the whole world, their director always returned to the city in the shadow of Wawel. Conscious of the significance of his artistic legacy, he set up “a living archive” here: the Cricoteka. After the death of the artist, the operations of the Cricot 2 might have been suspended, yet the Cricoteka continues to organise exhibitions, symposia, performances, workshops, and meetings, at the same time publishing materials devoted to Kantor’s art. Its home is the former power plant of Podgórze “wrapped” in a modern construction. The exhibition halls are suspended over the roof of the historical building, and the café situated on the top floor commands a panorama of the city, extending over the other side of the Vistula. Ogromnie ciężko jednoznacznie ocenić to miejsce. Budynek architektonicznie niesamowity, oszałamiający, widowiskowy, ekspresyjny, nieokiełznany, fascynujący. Już samo główne wejście z plakatem ukazującym oczy największego reformatora współczesnego teatru jest zachwycające. Wspaniały pomysł to kawiarnia na samej górze, z pięknym widokiem na Wisłę. W środku wystawa stała z rekwizytami ze spektakli. Czasem wystawy czasowe innych twórców. Ale niestety o samym Kantorze jest bardzo mało. Jeden monitor z filmem dokumentalnym oraz krótkie retrospekcje z performansów i innych aktywności autora. Co ciekawe umieszczone na..... półpiętrach między kondygnacjami. A gdzie tu szacunek dla największego reformatora teatru naszych czasów????? To miejsce to powinno być sanktuarium reżysera ponad reżyserami. A rzeczy które są tam prezentowane to wiedza na poziomie Wikipedii. To co najmniej skandal. To miejsce powinno tętnić życiem autora, jego ogromnym dorobkiem nie tylko teatralnym ale i plastycznym. Duchem epoki post apokaliptycznej, którą był okres dwóch wojen światowych. Zupełnie nie wykorzystano potencjału tego genialnego wizjonera, albo po prostu sztuka Kantora przerosła kustosza i dyrektora tego obiektu kultury wysokiej. Ciekaw jestem jak sam Tadeusz Kantor oceniłby to miejsce? Ale znając jego wybuchowy temperament zapewne zacząłby wyrzucać do Wisły eksponaty z wystawy!!! P.s. wystawa czasowa, retrospektywa Jerzego Beresia, to wydarzenie warte uwagi. Wspaniałe eksponaty z performansów, niektóre z ruchomymi elementami, polecam zwłaszcza dzieło "lizak", które jakoś kojarzy mi się ze sferą współczesnej krajowej polityki. Świetne filmy z zarejestrowanymi performansami, polecam erotyk z Muzeum Narodowego w Warszawie z roku 1993, w którym autor zwraca uwagę na dorobek filozofii Sorena Kierkegaarda w kontekście upadku ideałów Solidarności. Uwaga! Dużo nagości. Autor prezentuje swoje ciało będąc jednocześnie twórcą i tworzywem. Zdarza się, że na filmie kuśka performera dygnie, ale jest to reakcja fizjologiczna. Proszę się nie zniechęcać😁...

An extremely interesting building with an eye-catching architectural design. It is the home to a museum and a theater as well as a café on top.
