We booked a tour and tasting at the winery using their website. Nice and simple and we went for the gold tour at €35 for the both of us. For November the weather was very warm and sunny so we were pretty hot by the time we had walked there. The young woman who greeted us also carried out the tour and she made sure we had a refreshing glass of water and somewhere to sit while we waited. Borges is very family oriented with a relatively small team. The building is packed with history and we found the talk and tour fascinating. After the tour we were able to taste and enjoy three very good glasses of quality Madeiran wine along with some delicious biscuits and cakes. Excellent tour and great value. You definitely do not need to be an expert on wine to enjoy this....
Read moreMy husband and I visited Borges winery on the day they don’t offer the packaged winery tour, instead, with the recommendation and guidance from Ms Borges (yes, we are super fortunate), we ordered different ages/types of wines to taste.
I have to say all the wines we tasted (from 5 years to the limited 1984 reserve) were excellent in their own ways. Though we weren’t able to experience the tour itself, we enjoyed the fact that the tasting room was all for ourselves and we had the time to compare and enjoy. Needless to say, we were humbled to be guided by Ms Borges!

We did a tour with Maria, which was so informative, and then shared the tasting that had 6 different styles from 5-39 years old. We were left alone to taste so we didn't feel rushed, took lots of notes and pictures, admired the murals painted by the famous artist Max Romer, and just relax.
