Kayak Explorers was really fun! We took the 3:30 pm tour in mid June and they warned us that the water was a bit choppy at low tide. They offered to switch our times but we decided to go since we have had prior experience kayaking. The tour was very exciting and a little challenging! First we had a safety briefing and put our things in storage at their stand. We were supplied life jackets and waterproof bags. Our guide Jorge took us around Ponta da Piedade. The waves were big when we went, so if you are unsure, listen to your guides about low vs high tide and what time works best for you. Jorge was very funny and told stories and facts, which allowed us to learn and rest a bit. Because of low tide, we were able to go to some grottos that wouldn’t be accessible otherwise. It was so beautiful and an amazing way to experience the Algarve’s beautiful coast up close! We booked our tour with the option to snorkel at Ponta da Piedade, but the tide made it so we couldn’t get super close to the rocks and thus couldn’t really snorkel, but not a big deal. On the way back they towed us from the boat, which was great. Overall, a great experience for those who enjoy physical activity, water sports, and getting to see the beautiful grottos! One of our favorite experiences in the Algarve!

Several Kayak tours start here, next to each other, small difference in doing a stop-over at one of the beaches for 30 min. The tour is great, beautiful caves and rock formations, our guide told a few stories on the different locations but with 4 tours per day, it becomes a bit the same for him and it shows. They start with asking whether everybody knows how to handle a kayak and then quickly move on, but most people don't actually know how to handle a kayak and at sea near rocks a bit more attention should be given. They have watertight bags available for bigger stuff and a small one for your camera or mobile phone. You can only use this when it is in-between paddling or you easily run the risk of dropping it into the water. A lot of kayaks are in the water, since all 4 tours start roughly at the same time, can be crowded but doesnt feel unsafe. Only a few motorboats here, very different from near Benigal and Albufeira, there you feel that the kayaks are being run over by motorboats.

My wife and daughter visited here last week. We knew nothing about the area but we’re very fortunate to have chosen this company. They were very patient and friendly. Gave us everything we needed. It was a great experience that even less experienced kayakers will enjoy. You paddle out yourself to all of the beautiful rock formations in caves. Then you stop at Sandy Beach where you’re given the opportunity to store coal. We chose not to because the water is very cold. Plus there’s not that much to see in this particular area in terms of snorkeling. Then we paddled out to a motorboat and daisychained our kayaks to it. We were provided windbreakers to stay warm and we all were taken to the starting point. Windbreakers really helped because it did get chilly towards the end. We took the sunset cruise which was absolutely beautiful. Love the people and Enrique did a great job.

Before you book, check the tides. When we arrived we were told the tide was low and the tour would be a bit different - initially I didn't think anything of it because I was happy with whatever the experience. However, the tide was very rough and slightly dangerous - on the second cave we entered we were capsized by the riptide amongst rocks (I bashed my body and head a bit and we weren't wearing helmets). We then couldn't go into any other caves because they realised it was too dangerous, and this was not the experience we had booked. We also booked with Kayak Explorers especially because of the snorkelling. However, because of the tide we also couldn't do this. We should absolutely have been told in advance that this would be the case (all tides can be predicted and checked on apps/online etc.), and at least offered a reduction in cost or the offer to change our minds. What's more, we were given 'waterproof' bags for our phones on the kayak. Turns out these are not so waterproof and at the end of the trip, discovered our phones lying in a puddle of water. Unfortunately mine no longer charges properly. I believe this has the opportunity to be a great tour if and when you are there in the right...

We paid for a long tour and we finally did half of it. I understand that the weather/algae conditions is something the company can’t control, but we should have been informed or charged half of the price. It was supposed to be a 2h30min tour and we did 1h30min with no option of snorkeling due to the big amount of algae there was in the shore. My first complaint is that they knew the snorkeling was not an option as this problem with algae started 3 days ago (as the guide told us when we were already in the beach and after paying the tour). My second complaint is that, as the guide had 0 communication with the group, we found out the tour war over 1h before than expected due to the weather. I understand safety goes first, but at least inform what is going on. When a boy asked the guide about the change of plans with no previous information to the group, he started yelling at himand responding in a bad way. I think we should get half of the price as we did half of the tour, with no info about the change, poor indications about how to use a kayak when it was the first time in a kayak for some people of the group, and specially because we paid for 2h and a half and at 14h30...
