I went on this Kayaktour at 9:30am, it said you should be there 15min prior. We were two groups, the other group left on time but we left at 9:45am and came back about 11:45am. I only give 3 stars for the views and the experience itself, not for this company. I booked the kayaktour through my Hostel and it was 35€, they say its about 2 1/2 hours but just like previous reviews I can verify, we were only for 2 hours on the water.
You start at batata beach and you can go there to book a tour but usually they’re pretty booked out so if you want to go early on the next day I would book a day prior. The tour goes to the Ponta da Piedade and back.
If you’re lucky a boat will get you back to the batata beach, but half of the group needed to go back by themselves. My kayak was at the back - at least 200m away from the boat and the tour guide, I didn’t feel very safe because they wouldn’t even see me and the other person in my kayak if something has happened. Luckily nothing happened.
The tourguide itself was not the best, he seemed a bit in a rush and we went into caves that were way to small for us (or the water was too high that day) - we almost hit our heads, this was the case in multiple caves. They led us to a beach where we should settle and relax a bit but there was seagrass everywhere. The waves were pretty heavy, so after 3-4 kayaks got there they shouted „stay away! stay away!“ Our kayak was already too close, so our kayak was basically flooded with seagrass.
You could see the seagrass from the sea, so I don’t know why they led us to this beach at the first place.
When we all were on the sea again, they said we could go for a swim for 15 minutes, or we could just wait and chill. I think we could’ve gone to another beach with less seagrass (not every beach was full of it) or at least stayed longer to swim, but they thought otherwise.
Also I need to criticize, that the other group (we met them) went into more caves than we did, we could saw them getting out of a cave but sadly we didn’t go in there (but other groups from other company’s did.)
The views were amazing, it was so beautiful and we had time to make pictures. I enjoyed the views from the kayak, it wouldn’t be the same on a boat tour. Good thing: a waterproof bag, life jacket and obv. the kayak were included
They have lockers to lock your shoes and most important stuff - you can bring your phone, water, sunscreen and whatever you need to the kayak in the waterproof bag!
You should bring sunglasses, sunscreen, water, maybe a hat and a swimsuit. Don’t wear your clothes - they’ll get wet!
I would recommend doing it with another company, even if it’s 5€ more for a tour, you‘ll probably have a...
Read moreBe aware you can’t get any compensation even if the tour doesn’t go as planned. When we arrived for our tour they said the waves were quite strong, but when we asked if we should still go today, they said it would be fine and we should. The tour guide was great and we had a very good time kayaking over the strong waves, and they took good care of our safety. Ultimately due to the waves we were only able to visit one cave instead of many, and weren’t able to go to the beach at all for the half hour visit that we were looking forward to. This is, of course, not the fault of the company and they still gave us a very nice tour. However, at the end our guide told us that we should get compensation because we didn’t get to do most of the tour and it ended much sooner than planned, but upon emailing the company they said the best they could do was to reschedule us. After I explained that we were leaving Lagos shortly and couldn’t reschedule and asked for even just a small partial refund (as it had been expensive for not going to caves or beach and a shorter kayak) the company didn’t reply to my email. Disappointing as our guide told us we should get compensation. Otherwise the staff at the actual tour were excellent and the kayaking was lots of fun - just be aware if the weather turns and your trip is different, you won’t be able to get compensation, so I’d recommend saving it just for a day with...
Read moreThe crew of the Kayak Tours is a nice bunch of funny and young locals, that tell you every anecdote and all the interesting facts about every cave you visit with your Kayak. Since kayaking is not a rocket-science, you get a brief but adequate introduction how to handle your boat. Me and my girlfriend did it the first time but after few strokes with your paddle, you instinctively know how to do it. First it feels like it is demanding for your arms, but after reaching the final checkpoint, you still feel like you could easily paddle to the start by your own (the final checkpoint is a break on a secret beach, you can only reach by boat. Instead of paddling back by your own, there is a motor-boat that drags you in a convoy to the start, which itself was a very nice experience to us because of the nice view). The tour guide on the water was responsible with the group, but we also had the feeling of being able to find our own ways to the checkpoints – therefore it’s indeed a little adventure and not just plane paddling in line. You also get waterproof bags for your mobile phone, to take photos on the sea and life wests for your safety. The price and the offer is pretty much the same with every other option down there, so we preferred the authentic local group for the trip, that made us a nice kayak tour for...
