If you spend time in Vilamoura, please find the time to visit this Roman Archaeological site. It is only open on weekdays (and closed for lunch) and only costs €4 for adults, €2 for Over 65’s and free for I believe under 13 but worth checking exactly on this one.

There are the excavations of a old Roman Villa to wander around with signs in Portuguese and English and at the end a really good visitor centre with some well preserved finds dating back to the Bronze Age and nicely air conditioned. The Roman Villa site is good to wander around (of course I went mid afternoon when it was Hot). A number of different rooms of the Villa have been excavated, showing a good mosaic floor and hypocaust columns under the pool area. As well as public baths and burial sites. As you will discover in the moderately sized visitor centre the area dates back to the Bronze Age with some burial sites also excavated.

In error i said there was a wait time to go in, there wasn't i was the only person at that time. i meant i spent 30-60mins looking...

Well worth a visit if you are interested in Roman history. Some well preserved remains of the lower walls of a Roman villa, floor mosaics, baths and a necropolis and some outlying buildings. There are information boards around the site, in English and Portuguese, explaining what the building would have been like, which were very helpful. The museum was small but, contains several artifacts from the dig site which were interesting. Costing just €4 per adult and €2 for retired adults it was well worth spending an hour in a quiet location away from the busier tourist attractions of the marina, beach and...

Forget the beach for an hour or two and dive in the history of the roman villa that once stood right smack in the middle of Vilamoura. The ruins are well preserved and full of information complemented with beautiful illustrations showing us what once stood right in front of us. The mini-museum is also very clean, well organised and filled with beautiful pieces. If you choose to enrich your life, don't forget to give a warm welcome to Miss Silvia, she'll be the amazing person welcoming you to Cerro da Vila and providing you with the necessary tickets (that are well...
