Restaurante O Marisco — Restaurant in Loulé

Big disappointment, unfortunately, because we really wanted it to be a cut above the rest in the Marina (having done lots of research) and it definitely wasn't. Ate here twice in Sept 2022, once for lunch and once for evening dinner. The standout was that none of the seafood actually tasted 'fresh', it all had that 'from a packet' taste - safe and bland.

The prawn and avocado starter was a disaster - a few tired prawns set on a bed of liquidised avocado and a tiny piece of toast. Why would you liquidise avocado when it tastes so much better just sliced? The Paella was very oily and burnt onto the bottom of the pan it was served in.

Two starters, 2 portions of Paella, 2 ice creams and a couple of beers plus a single glass of wine - £100 please. Haven is a couple of doors away from O Marisco - it may be tightly packed in and noisy, but (if you pick carefully) the food is much better, yet no more expensive. We love to eat seafood in south Portugal. So out of recommendation we decided to try this restaurant and we found another good dining experience. All the flavors and service was top notch. Maybe everything was bit fast, but this is probably because you are used to waiting in fine dining restaurants. For starters we had oysters and clams. Especially the oysters were really good. I don't know if June is best time for getting oysters but they were quite thick, juicy and full of flavour. Clams had nice butter coriander sauce and warm bread to wipe the sauce. Lobster was perfectly cooked and was brought to us for approval before cooking. We had nice dry white wine from good wine selection. Restaurant might be bit on expensive side, but you get good value for your money. Also we saw very nice looking skewers brought to other tables. They called them kebabs. Been coming here for years. Tonight it was a major (and very expensive) let down. The service was totally disjointed and the staff were all miserable as sin. Serving courses before the previous course cutlery and plates weren't cleared. Then the quality of the surf and turf kebabs were both very poor.

Steaks were good quality but not cooked as requested. The steak in the surf and turf kebabs was still alive. We raised this concern and they said we should have told them how we would like it cooked. They should have asked us surely at the point of ordering, or if they bothered to come and ask us after serving the meals if everything was ok they could have rectified it.
