The museum is a well preserved testemony of transport and urban revolution of Oporto. The vehicles are in mint condition. The building was the original transformation unit (coal to electricity), that fed the transport company's power grid. You will find vehicles specific to person, merch and coal transportation. There is a small media room in the middle of the exhibition, with an area suited for kids to play, draw, although, from my experience, they'll most certainly be interested in playing inside the carriages (Wich is somewhat permitted, but not allowed by rules).

What I consider is lacking, is a decent cafeteria. There is a coffee machine but that's that.

I found this museum a surprising place hidden from the main tourist circuits, with a lot of potential to grow and attract...

One of the most boring tram museums I've ever seen. Despite its great place (former depot and power station) there is literally nothing to do here except take a look at old tram cars and power converters. Museum workers don't speak English, there is nothing interactive in there, no cafes. 15 minutes is maximum you can spend here. Compare it to (for instance) tram museum in Nürnberg - where there is always something for everyone: from small child to a grown up lazy parent (transport fans are somewhere in between and also covered). Fell really sad: seems to be that what happens if you have huge amount of money (granted from EU in this case) and completely no desire to do...

Decided to visit the tram museum on my last morning in Porto as it was right next door to my hotel. If you keep your ticket you get when you ride on the tram the museum gives you a 30% discount on the entry price which in my opinion is just as well because the normal price of 8 euros I think is very high for what the museum offers. In the first section there are some well preserved tram carriages, with information boards that explain their individual histories. The second section upstairs is a collection of engines and electric generators of varying ages, which I did not find very interesting. And that’s it! I was expecting more and after 20 minutes I had...

It is a museum which deserves to be guided by a technical person. Impressive collection of machines in a state of presentation exceptional. The first floor was the machine room for this former electrical power generation plant. There the state of conservation is also very good. But I would have liked to see one of the huge machinery (turbo-alternator) we can see on the photos. I would have liked to see also some comments more technical and historical on the evolution of the machinery to convert AC into DC and how control was operated Despite these comments, I did enjoy and I highly recommend. To see.

A cozy and detailed museum of the local tram company. Trams shown detailed rail history of Porto and the info for each one is concise and on point. Some exibition are interactive and all can be touched, photographed and posed with. Second floor is a great historical power station, most amazingly preserved and detailed. Greatly enjoy the atmosphere and trams present. The place is right next to the actual deposit if going trams, so you can also see them in action and talk to the drivers.

Great! If you don’t like trams and engines change that to “probably great” as it is a load of trams in a big room. But if that sounds like your kind of thing - it’s tram-tastic Ride the tram line first. Start at the stop next to the museum. Ride all the way back and forth on the loop that goes into town, all the way down to the sea, and then back to the museum. You will definitely be ready for a big room of more trams. It’ll rattle your bones!
