This is the year of its centenary, excellent service to go up to the sanctuary and enjoy the fresh view. Among other things, you can't wait to get out of the cabin, it's very hot. When I arrived there was no one, a maximum of 20 people can go up. When I got off at the start there was a lot of queue. Journey time 15 minutes. Return ticket €3. Read moreThe Elevador de Santa Luzia is actually a funicular ride and not an elevator as is commonly known in English. Nonetheless, it is a fun, 5- minutes ride to the top of the hill where the church is located. One way tickets are 2€ per person, and the roundtrip is 3€.
You can walk up the 600+ steps of you choose to but in order to enjoy the experience, it is best to ride the "Elevador" up and then walk down.
Each car seats about 8-10 people with standing room for another 8-10 and they depart every 15 minutes. The cars are not original or historic and they can be a cleaned up a bit, especially the windows...
