A very mixed bag experience at this hotel. The hotel is well renovated, the beautiful features of the old building maintained, and the modern parts are clean and stylish, albeit lacking some soul. The receptionists were wonderful, helpful, patient (with my toddler and in-laws!), and knowledgeable. We experienced some particular incidents that were fairly unacceptable to us: 1, a member of the breakfast staff had a facial wound and continuously picked it and licked their fingers while they cleared tables, and lamentably, dealt with the food. 2, we asked to use the sauna & steam room. The receptionist explained how it worked and sent me on my way. She didn't tell me, and I didn't think to ask, but 1 session = 1 hour. The facilities had not even reached the proper temperatures when our session timed out and everything switched off. Frustrating to say the least, as we would have gladly booked 2 or 3 or 4 sessions. If we'd known. Essentially, with 1 session you cannot hope to enjoy the sauna. I think it would be fairer to tell people that it needs 1 hour to heat and start charging thereafter. Otherwise, it was great. The pool is now very well looked after and perfectly clean, even at the end of summer. The view is great. The location is brilliant for city explorations, and the toy store no longer plays loud music all day! The breakfast was OK; a lot of cold food and bread options and you can order scramble/ fried eggs/omelette. I wish there was less disposable plastic involved, but that's cheap...
Read moreUnfortunately this time our experience was quite unpleasant. We stayed here with our family last March and enjoyed the experience so much that now upon returning to Viana, we did not hesitate when it came to choosing the place to stay. Unfortunately we were given a room on the ground floor next to the breakfast room and in the corridor that accesses the reception. This is their accessible room and in my opinion should not be rented as a regular room. Guests should be informed of its location and even have it at a reduced rate. We booked the room and paid full high season price because it was a long weekend. Besides hearing the incessant noise of the exterior a/c machines all night ,we also woke up to cutlery and dishes clanking around 6:30am. |When we told the front desk how disappointed we were no solution was presented. Not a discount or any other type of attempt to compensate someone who was so visibly disappointed with their stay. |We will not return or recommend the...
