This is such a pleasant space in the Primaverii neighborhood, a posh corner of Bucharest easily accessible from the Aviatorilor subway station, and very close to Herastrau Park. The museum is segmented on a couple of floors and the artwork is displayed in such a way that it can be admired easily within it’s own space, making it a pleasant experience without being overwhelmed. During my art history studies, professors would say that the perfect museum visit should take about 15 minutes; that is why I think this is such a great place! The staff is smart and savvy, and the vibe is quite trendy in this privately owned museum. Admirable, to have someone invest in such a museum in Bucharest! There is a very cute terrace where you can sit for a coffee and snack, a great little shop, and MARe can be easily coupled with the Ceasescu museum just up the block. There are a few restaurants nearby too. Bongiourno, and City Grill (indoor and outdoors). All in all, I’d say worth the visit! Thanks to those who gifted the city...
Read moreThis a review of the cafe at the museum called Beans and Dots. The cafe is usually busy - on a Saturday at 1pm in March we got the last table. It is okay but there are a few issues need addressing 1) it’s cool to cold in terms of air temperature inside on a cold day (outdoors was 10 degrees) and that is coming from a Brit who likes the cold! The plastic chairs are cold as is the table. The hot chocolate was tepid. The quiche was hot on the outside and cold in the middle. It also came with no garnish. The menu is too limited - ignore the reviews about soup and duck sandwiches! They serve egg on toast, quiche, croissant. The croissants are small. The coffee is small. It’s all a bit too pretentious for its own good, and that’s coming from a Londoner! The staff throughout are lovely. English is spoken fluently.
The museum is good but it only takes 30 mins to go round it, so it’s better when there is a paid exhibition like the Picasso. The entrance fee was 45 LEI without any special exhibition....
Read moreThe Picasso exhibition is quite awesome, but I found the 100 Romanian Lei (RON) entrance fee a bit expensive. The exhibition itself is interesting, and what added a unique twist was the inclusion of Romanian artists' works alongside Picasso's paintings. It turned into a fun guessing game to distinguish between his work and that of an unknown artist.
However, I was disappointed with the lighting in the exhibition. It wasn't bright enough, and there were moments when we couldn't fully appreciate the colorful paintings due to inadequate lighting. The pink walls of the museum clashed with the artist's paintings, which was quite distracting.
Additionally, the narrow corridors sometimes led to crowded spaces, making it uncomfortable for visitors.
They have a café where you can order food and drinks. We ordered rosé, and the café was nice, with friendly staff. However, I was disappointed that they didn't have any vegan...
