MATS - Muzeu Atelier Tipografie Sibiu — Attraction in Sibiu

In April this year when I visited Sibiu , MATS was on the top of my list to visit. And I’m so glad I did!

My partner and I came in one early afternoon and the lovely owner spent hours with us going through the history of typography, the process and allowed us to create our own posters. Extremely knowledgable, very easy going. Made the afternoon a delight!

For such a small museum and working atelier, it’s packed with impressive equipment and knowledge.

Later in the evening we came back to attend a paper making workshop which was very fun.

The entire experience was so great that on my last day in Sibiu I came back to purchase prints created by the owners.

Highly recommend visiting the museum, speaking to the owners and purchasing some local art. This place is a real diamond that isn’t appreciated enough by the local community. If you are in the area and can visit & show your support, I urge you to do so.

A wonderful, wonderful two room mini museum with a fabulous guide. He eloquently took us through the history of communication from cave paintings to the invention of media and then mass media of printing. - in perfect English. Had a great experience here. The guy that told us everything we wanted to know (I'd call him a "guide" but he was much more than that) was very passionate about the whole printing press, which helped a lot in this experience.
