If you're into vintage pharmacy history and artifacts, then this wonderful little museum is for you. For a modest price which helps hold the museum alive, you get to see and learn some amazing things, like about Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, who lived in Sibiu (then known as Hermannstadt) for a period of time. He worked as a librarian and personal physician to Baron Samuel von Brukenthal, the imperial governor of Transylvania, during his stay there. This was an important chapter in his life before he fully developed the principles of homeopathy, and a piece of such history is found in the pharmacy museum's lab. The museum is basically an old pharmacy (with objects collected from various parts of Romania), formed of two rooms: the officina and the laboratory. The building is an architectural monument dating back from 1568, having Gothic and Renaissance elements. In this building did function the 3rd pharmacy from Sibiu, in chronological order, opened in 1600, called "At the Black Bear". The exhibition is according to the classic pharmacy pattern, with an officine and a laboratory. The exhibition comprises about 6600 pieces. Personally, I would’ve spent many hours to admire each and every corner had it not been for the closing hours 😅 all in all, I totally recommend it, especially if you want to visit a museum that is less crowded than others.
