This fountain in Hviezdoslavovo square is so called because it tells the Greek story of Ganymede. The sculptural ensemble of the fountain features a centrepiece of a sculpture of Ganymede with a cup in his hand, being borne aloft on the back of an eagle. The sculpture alludes to the story of the handsome Trojan prince who was carried off to heaven by Zeus in the shape of an eagle where he became the cup-bearer to the gods, which would’ve been a position of honour.
The sculptural ensemble is completed by four sculptures of youths, each holding a large fish spewing water into the fountain basin.
