Food: excellent Service: excellent Ambiance: excellent
So glad I paid attention to all the amazing past reviews here. Came here on Friday night for dinner and opted to sit inside to get a view of the bar and artistic ceiling. The waiter was very friendly and recommended me to try the duck leg bryndzové halusky , so I went with the suggestion and a glass of Slovakia Staropramen 0.5cl beer. The owner, Zlatko was also very kind and friendly, and explained his family restaurant business. He sources his ingredients like meat, cheese from very careful and reputable vendors. For example, duck is sourced from a farmer with over 20 years in the business who also exports to France. The restaurant only opened two years ago but has made such rapid strides: featuring in the Gurmán magazine, thus earning a prized certificate framed on the wall (like a Michelin star for the country). He was kind enough to offer me a digestif on the house: a lovely Slovakian Brandy, Karpatské. Service was also very attentive and the prices are very reasonable considering the portion sizes and quality. Ambiance was cozy and warm along with some lively traditional Slovak music played by Kollárovci (I had to use Shazam!). Old family pictures on the wall and ceiling reminding one of fresco paintings. They made me feel very welcome like a member of the family! I highly recommend you visit here when you travel to Bratislava. I wish we had a nice Slovakian restaurant like this in Canada but all the more reason to visit Bratislava and Dolnozemská krčma again. I wish to thank the team again and wish them good luck in...
Read moreOk. So I love marrow. It's generally hard to find while traveling, but there was a nice photo of some on a review so we found ourselves here. We are so glad we did. The best marrow I've ever had. Big bones, lots of marrow in there. Damn. Served with fresh horseradish and toast. The only thing I would have changed is the toast. I'm not big on had, crusty bread. I know a lot of people like it, but I prefer something more like Irish soda bread. Anyway, I digress. The food was awesome. I also got something I can't pronounce that was like cheesy spätzle. Very nice. Prices were also very low (for Europe, I don't know how it compares locally since this was our first meal in Bratislava). The place was absolutely dead on a Wednesday night, but you'd never know it as far as the staff goes. They were awesome. We've got another night here, we might just go again. The menu has so many things on it that we wanted to try, but a man can only eat so much in...
Read moreI had high hopes for this spot, but it was pretty mid in all respects.
Our first server was very nice--she gave good recommendations and was very pleasant.
However, the food was both kind of expensive (22 euro burger, for example) but also kind of bland. The fries were surprisingly not very delicious--kind of fibrous and undercooked.
The interior was kind of interesting, but the bathroom was a bit gross.
Then it took forever to get our check--a party that was seater AFTER we had done eating got their check before us and left. They were right next to us.
I tried to get the servers attention three times before finally just getting up to ask to pay.
I will say that most of Europe (we were in GB, CH, LI, and AT before this) have pretty slow standards for giving the check.
But the experience of seeing 4 German dudes come and go before I had to get up to ask (being ignored thrice) was really...
