My wife and I stayed at Manderla for 2 nights. We had a private twin room (bunk beds) and were assigned the last room down the hall (Room 9 I believe). Overall, it was a pretty pleasant experience. The location is fantastic. The receptionist was kind and concise. Our room had a fairly powerful air-conditioner (but it was leaky). The beds do not have mattresses. They are more like military cots. Mildly comfortable with decent pillows. I noticed that some reviews complained about a damage deposit scam so I was wary; however, we experienced nothing of the sort. No damage deposit was necessary and while they do feature a lengthy list of room damage costs near the front desk, you needn't worry about it as long as you use your common sense and room etiquette. The place is, indeed, a true hostel. The whole bathroom and shower sharing experience was insufferable as always in addition to being surrounded by obnoxious mellenials conversing at the top of their lungs at all hours, but this is something you should expect at any hostel. If you're not prepared for this, find a pricey hotel. The biggest issue with Manderla is the time you will spend trying to find it. It is not located off the strip but inside an inconspicuous courtyard. My wife spent so much time entering random courtyards trying to find it. So here's my best attempt at providing directions; the entrance to the courtyard is off of the Laurinska street. It is directly adjacent from a store called "Two Worlds". You should see signage for a Chinese restaurant. After you enter the courtyard, turn right. You should see the reception desk which is also some kind...
Read moreThe description of the room on Booking is not accurate. We booked a room called "Štvorlôžková izba Classic" in Slovak, which means "4-bed room Classic", for the two of us. My booking confirmation specifically states it is for "up to 3 persons". However, on arrival, we were told the price we already paid is just for 1 person and we need to pay extra for the other. Also, the room description includes too many references to bathroom, including "shower", "toilet", "shared bathroom" and "shared toilet" - and while other rooms specifically state they have a shared toilet, this one didn't. But the bathroom was still shared. Overall, this ended up being a bad value for money and we would have chosen something else if the room description and prices were accurate.||Other than that, the room was basic but spacious enough. The bed was comfortable enough. The location was perfect - right in the middle of Bratislava's...
Read moreThe location was excellent, very central.||Our room was not as described but the girl on reception was so helpful and polite and managed to arrange a new room for us for the night after. This was greatly appreciated. ||We knowingly booked a shared bathroom but it was one female toilet and shower in the same space meaning both were occupied when one person required either. This was shared between around 7 rooms on the one floor. I think this is too minimalist. With up to 14 possible people, one bathroom is ridiculous and I feel it is important for guests to know this before signing up.||Take note that the check in desk only opens at certain hours, otherwise there is no one there to assist. ||Also seek specific directions before arriving as it is hidden off the street and even with google maps the entrance was not at all clear or signposted from the street. This may avoid you having to walk around the block with...
