We went on 28 May to visit the exhibition of unglazed ceramic works on at the gallery till 18 June. It was fascinating! Beautifully set out with explanations and examples of the various naked clay techniques such as raku, obvara, agate, burnishing and slip casting, as well as saggar firing (amazing!) . The extraordinarily helpful gentleman on duty directed us to an equally wonderful exhibition elsewhere in the building, When Wild Woods Whisper, which we visited after a restorative cappucino in the excellent cafe in the building (a whisky drinkers' paradise too by the look of the bottles on display). These two exhibitions together make a truly awesome experience, so do yourself a favour and don't wait till it's too late to...
Read moreRUST EN VREDE in Wellington road, PAMPOENKRAAL, Durbanville. Gallery, museum and studio's. Beautiful National Momument rounded by beautiful gardens. Built in 1840. Visit this house with your easy going shoes, it is a big place. I love the artists PENNY SIMPSON, NADINE HANSEN AND ANINA DEETLEFT. The little studio's are a treat, from soap, glass and even classes are presented. I bought lovely soaps from DELISE and a glass bracket to hang my glasses from, now more rope around my neck, and it can be use to keep a scarf in place from VROLIK. Afterwards we eat at the YOCO EATERY. The food is delicious ! The children can play in the garden while parents can keep an eye on them. Calm in a busy world. The artists are friendly and demonstrate their craft. I would not take a toddler inside...
