The Hermanus Whale Museum is an absolute gem that offers a delightful and educational experience for visitors of all ages. Nestled in the picturesque town of Hermanus, this charming museum provides a fascinating insight into the world of whales and their marine environment. The museum's exhibits are thoughtfully curated, blending interactive displays with informative panels that captivate both young and old. The highlight for many, especially children, is the small submarine exhibit that features an engaging video, making it feel like one is truly submerged beneath the ocean waves.

Beyond the main museum, your ticket also grants you access to the adjacent photography house, which is a nostalgic addition to the visit. This cozy spot showcases a collection of historical and contemporary photographs, capturing the essence of Hermanus and its rich maritime heritage. It's a wonderful opportunity to see some familiar faces and places through the lens of time, adding a personal touch to the overall experience.

Furthermore, a short stroll down to the old Harbour reveals another quaint room filled with maritime treasures. This area is brimming with artifacts and displays that offer a deeper dive into the local history and the whale-watching culture that Hermanus is renowned for. The entire setup is well-thought-out, making it easy for visitors to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of whales while enjoying the scenic beauty of the coastal town. A visit to the Hermanus Whale Museum is not just an educational outing but a heartwarming journey that leaves lasting memories for the...

It's awesome here....But!!.....I believe that the most times that this place is visited is during the Whale Festival always at the end of September beginning of October every year! We visit Hermanus every year for the last 10 years during the Whale festival and this town gets crowded beyond your wildest understanding! So yes! they can real-lii do something major to give this little place of great important a face-lift and make it real-lii play it major part in this very important town that becomes the haven for whale-watches every year!....Its very disappointing to note that the whale fest has been going on for the past 25 + years and they still haven't yet gathered enough funds to do...

Although it is a small museum, there is a lot of interesting information thoughtfully presented on stands and interactive exhibition (sounds of different whales, etc.). The museum is focused on whales and dolphins, which can be seen in the area. The highlight is a full skeleton of southern right whale and scull of sperm whale.

I would highly recommend the management to introduce the age restriction for children. There is nothing interesting in the museum for toddlers. They are just running around, with parents/grandparents chasing them, screaming and not allowing adults and older kids to enjoy the...

The Whale Museum, located in center of Hermanus, is a great option to add to your sightseeing itinerary. It is a small museum with informative and interactive exhibits providing fun for all ages. One of the exhibits included a miniature submarine which you can get into as well as another one where you can listen to different whale sounds. The entrance fee was very reasonable at R30 for adults and R10 for children and as it is close to other attractions and restaurants I definitely think it is worth a visit, even just a quick one.

Lovely little museum, easy for children to be entertained while learning about whales. My children really enjoyed the mini submarine which took them on an underwater adventure seeing all sorts of marine life. It also has a bunch of buttons/knobs to touch. This was great as it gave us opportunity to look at the other displays while our children were kept busy. Good for about 15-20minutes with small children. There are other interactive displays for the children too. (Puzzles, iPad games, listening to whales etc)
