Just experienced a delicious meal at Lemonicious in Hermanus. We were 4 adults and one 4 year old. We ordered 4 X hake and chips and 2 x 10 king prawns served with lemon butter , one with rice and the other with grilled vegetables. We also had 3 vanilla milkshakes and a hot chocolate. Our 4 year old had 2 salmon nigiri from the sushi menu. The prawns were very fresh and large and prepared perfectly. The hake and chips were excellent. Chips were crispy on the outside and soft inside. We had the battered hake which was cooked perfectly. We were fortunate to get a window table so we could view a few whales frolicking in the ocean. The whole dining experience was really and unexpected pleasure. We got the address off google but were lucky to be accommodated by the restaurant staff without a booking ( I would suggest that you book before hand because they are always busy). We were also assured that they are halal friendly although we only ordered seafood. The price for this amazing dining experience was also reasonable. Total cost with tip was R1700 for the 5 of us. I will definitely be returning when...
Read moreMY FIRST AND LAST EXPERIENCE. Upon arrival, my girlfriend and I were greeted by 2 white gentlemen (only mentioning the racial tag so the other staff don't get trouble). The one middle-aged and the other a bit older. After asking if they had a table for us, the middle-aged guy offers a table, but then without me even asking, he goes on to explain how Lemonicious is a more cocktail kinda place, and I quote "more high end reserved for the cool people". I immediately looked at him and his friend, who you could tell picked up on what he was trying to say by the grin he was trying to hide under his smile. We barely even made it to the table, and he was already referring us to a different place. After being highly recommended, this was very disappointing, to say the least. I never use racial tags or anything like that, but this just left a sour taste in my mouth. I can't speak to the quality of the food, but that was probably the most condescending welcome I have ever received from anyone and I don't care for the food if you treat your guests that way. Hope it doesn't happen to...
Read moreThis December we had a lunch at Lemonicious three times and had some sushi as a takeaway. The village platters were delicious and perfectly cooked every time, including line fish (kabeljou), queen prawns and mussels. I would highly recommend this dish. Hake and chips was also good: succulent and tasty. Suchi was fresh and delicious. Old Harbor beer on tap was awesome, with fresh hops aroma, the best throughout our stay in Hermanus.
But the 10 king prawns were undercooked (the parts close to the heads) and thus unpleasant to eat. Extra 4 queen prawns added to hake were also not as good as the prawns on the platters, less tasty and thinner. Seafood paella was the most disappointing: hardly warm mussels on ice cold shells, whole dish lukwarm and tasted as yesterday food warmed up in microwave.
Lemonicious was one of our preferred restaurants for casual lunch, since 2018. We always enjoyed our meals, fresh and very tasty, with great ocean views. But this December the food was a bit disappointing. Hopefully, it will be back to the highest standard we got used to for our...
