There really is no point in having a beautiful venue and employing a manager who has a bad attitude and who is unable to do his job efficiently and with integrity. There is an interesting factor that comes into play here (which I will not even dare to mention at this stage). Hopefully you are able to read between the lines since it's a trending topic in SA at the moment. Seems like my fiance and I are not the first ones to fall victim of such terrible service. We've visited Backsberg after emailing and indicating that we are interested in the venue for our wedding day. We were provided with your venue rates and informed that the prices stipulated in your package is not set in stone and that you are willing to work with our budget if necessary. We responded after visiting Backsberg and have been awaiting a response for over two weeks. Four emails and three phone calls later and yet, no response. On the day that we visited Backsberg, the reception was terrible and Sean made as if he had no idea who we were and he pretended that we did not even have an appointment with him... I wonder why... Only after he saw us.... and after he had confirmed the appointment a few days earlier. Not only was the reception pathetic, while showing us around, we may as well have been in our gym clothing since we were expected to pace through the premises in order to keep up with him. He rushed the site viewing and walked in front of us (with huge distances between us and him - clearly his intention was to get it over and done with and not allow us to have our wedding there)... I wonder why...
After the speedy viewing we were told that we could look around on our own, which we did but the few minutes with him left a bad taste in our mouths and led us to read the reviews on Backsberg. Needless to say, there were bad reviews, which referred to Sean and his attitude specifically. Reviews from more than a year ago... Yet, he is still allowed (or maybe even condoned) to carry on with the same prejudice and bad attitude. What a country we're living in at a moment, where certain individuals are allowed to treat others a certain way because of the factor I stated earlier, which technically, I am still not mentioning.
To end off my somewhat lengthy message, Backsberg your service is pathetic! You need a different manager and people need to know about this and in due time, if things do not change, all will be revealed!

Read moreThis was my wedding venue, leading up to the wedding it seemed to be perfectly fine, but the week before was major lack of communication and the day before nothing was set up or done by the event manager Lee Ann (she had a health issues) this is understandable but the lack of communication between the staff is terrible , obviously this stressed me out. Lucky Sean the restaurant manager put me at ease and tried to do what he could, they definitely great at selling to you , but there is no follow through. Also every time myself and my husband went for a "meeting" regarding our wedding they never seemed to know who we were , this made it feel very impersonal and unprofessional , also they were never ready for us when we arrived. I think the problem here was the company Extreem wineland (events) and backsberg do not communicate about the events and people, but the end of the day friends and family made the day great, the food was wonderful and sean did a great job from the kitchen expect for the fact they did not put out cutting knifes and plates for the cakes and guests...

As we noticed your menu has changed and we decided to sit inside this time as the weather was a bit chilly. My husband ordered Yorkshire Duck and I the lamb shank. Also a bottle of wine. The wine was served in an ice bucket with out being opened and we were not offered a taste. The main course finally arrive and what a disappointment. The Yorkshire puddings were dry and stale. The duck which was served with the Yorkshire puddings didn't even look like duck and tasted terrible. My lamb shank was fine and the veggies were also very nice but the potatoes tasted as if they had been warmed up serveral times. Our waitress was un-attentive and we felt that we were keeping the staff from leaving even thought it was only 3.30 in the afternoon. I'm sorry to say this had not been a good experience and we will consider very carefully before we return...
