So I was fortunate enough to find myself in Franschhoek, which means French corner. And decided to go to a French restaurant that is in business for the past 24 years.
On the special they had mussels, but as my waiter asked what would I like for starters, another waiting wrote on the board, sold out. Ah well, it means that the mussels was popular that evening. So I had the Prawn Tempura instead. It was light, not like your usual Chinese oily tempura. Souse was interesting.
Veal snitchzel for main as this is one of their original dishes and I want to find out why it is always on the menu. And I know why. Because the taste is a different dimension and I cannot place it as a red meat or chicken meat.
For dessert I had Belgium chocolates and a nice 10 years old KWV brandy.
They support an academy helping children. Celebtrery hangout with Bono, Faf de klerk and Brian Habanna as guests. The staff is well trained.
And as always, it is about expectation and my expectations of this highly regarded place was met. So I left there the night satisfied. We'll done. 4.5/5.Here’s a revised version of your text with improved clarity, grammar, and flow while maintaining the original tone and structure:
I was fortunate enough to find myself in Franschhoek, which translates to "French Corner." I decided to dine at a French restaurant that has been in business for the past 24 years. On the specials board, they listed mussels, but just as my waiter asked what I’d like for starters, another server updated the board to read "sold out." Well, that just meant the mussels were popular that evening. Instead, I opted for the prawn tempura. It was light, unlike the greasy tempura you often find at Chinese restaurants, and the sauce was intriguing. For my main course, I chose the veal schnitzel, one of their original dishes, to discover why it’s a menu staple. Now I understand—it’s a flavor from another dimension, neither distinctly red meat nor chicken. For dessert, I indulged in Belgian chocolates paired with a smooth 10-year-old KWV brandy. The restaurant supports an academy that helps children and is a celebrity hotspot, having hosted the likes of Bono, Faf du Klerk, and Bryan Habana. The staff is exceptionally well-trained. As always, it’s about expectations, and this highly regarded establishment met mine. I left that night thoroughly satisfied. Well...
Read moreFew dishes, but a lonnnnng wine list, with all price ranges. We picked a four paws pinotage 2011 at 325 ZAR and it was excellent. Before you eat they serve some good bread which looks like it was made with wood fire with salt butter. We both ate a fillet mignon and it was fantastic, the meat was well cooked and in good proportion. It was served with a three mushrooms sauce and we were amazed with the balanced taste.
As for the french fries, they were dry (Trust me this is not common in there) and awesome. the waiters are very friendly and do their job very well.
As for the dessert... Well... Too damn good. If you are into exotic fruits then you should definitely go for a Fruit passion cheesecake. If you're more into chocolate, then the Warm belgian chocolate tart is made for you, the chocolate is wonderful and the pie shell was definitely homemade, the only bémol would be the vanilla ice-cream was lacking as it was the common ice-cream that you can find in any supermarket. It shouldn't be too hard to find a real one made with...
Read moreBelow my expectation , it felt like the restaurant rested on its laurels. Chowder wasn't very tasty. However, the manager took it off the bill when he asked, and i told him it was mediocre. My main was a pasta puttanesca, which was so hot it must have been warmed in microwave , and pasta was soft and over cooked. My girlfriend had the seared tuna on wasabi mash and raved about it, so not all bad. Overall, the atmosphere is quaint , very busy, but in my opinion, food doesn't appear to match expectations (including what i saw going to neighboring tables) and restaurant needs a shake up to i prove freshness and qualiy of ehat kitchen puts out. Lastly, the wine list whilst extensive enough ranged from cheap Wolftrap at inflated prices to expensive wines from region with little in the middle and could also, in my opinion, offer some decent wines at more...
