A Memorable Stay at Protea Marriott Franschhoek

Spending a night with friends at the Protea Marriott Franschhoek was nothing short of a delightful experience. This beautiful, family-friendly boutique hotel offers a warm, homely atmosphere that sets it apart from the typical chain hotels. Its excellent location, just a stones throw from the heart of Franschhoek, makes it the perfect base for exploring the town.

Arrival & First Impressions

From the moment I drove into the secured parking area, I was met with outstanding hospitality. Security guard ‘’Andrew ‘’and other staff members warmly greeted me, setting the tone for a seamless check-in experience at reception. Their attentiveness and friendliness made me feel instantly welcome.

The entrance foyer is a true work of art, adorned with exquisite artwork that adds to the hotels charm. It’s clear that great thought has gone into the decor, creating an inviting and elegant ambiance.

Relaxation at Its Finest

The pool and garden area is nothing short of breathtaking. Surrounded by majestic mountains, its s a haven of tranquillity perfect for unwinding and soaking in the serene surroundings. As day turns to night, the evening lights around the pool cast a soft, enchanting glow, making it an absolute sight to behold.

Spacious & Comfortable Rooms

The rooms at Protea Marriott Franschhoek are exceptionally spacious, clean, and comfortable. Every detail speaks of quality and luxury from the crisp bed linen and plush pillows to the thick, soft towels. The large shower adds an extra touch of indulgence, making freshening up a pleasure.

A Culinary Delight at Hussar Grill

Dining at Hussar Grill, the hotels on-site restaurant, was an absolute highlight. From the impeccable service to the mouthwatering cuisine, everything was top-notch. The ambiance was elevated by the presence of a live singer, adding to the overall experience. Best of all, the meal came at a reasonable price, proving that luxury doesn’t t always have to break the bank.

Overall Experience Every moment at Protea Marriott Franschhoek exuded sheer luxury, made even more special by the friendly and attentive staff. Their genuine warmth and impeccable service ensured that our night was truly memorable.

A huge thank you to everyone at the hotel for making our stay so wonderful! I look forward to returning for another...

Perfect option for Wine Country in South Africa. We stayed for 3 nights and wished that we had not moved to Stellenbosch.

This was a hotly debated 5.0 review, so I think this is probably a 4.5. HOWEVER, it’s not because we didn’t love our stay (we really did), it’s just simply not a “5-star” type of hotel. If you’re looking for a great base to explore Franschoek’s amazing countryside and perfect “downtown”, then you should choose this hotel. Here are some notes as you plan: -The Service was fantastic. Everyone at the hotel, but especially the front desk and the staff at the restaurant. They were always happy to see us and made our trip very special. -We’re Titanium members, so that really helped; we had a wonderful (free) breakfast every morning sitting outside by the pool. -The gym is nice - but it’s an 8-minute walk away at a local gym. It’s free and not a bad way to start your workout, but know that it’s not at the hotel. -The restaurant is great (see my review on our first night’s dinner), so if you don’t want to venture out after dark, you can bring your own wine from your wine tram searches and know that you’re getting an excellent dinner for the money. (The peri-peri chicken and house salad were simply fresh and perfect.) -The room is super clean but basic, though N wanted me to make sure that everyone knows that the bed was super comfortable. (I slept like a baby after the long flight, so no complaints from me, either!) -Great parking, easy walking distance to the Wine Tram, and it’s a nice small place, so feels like a boutique in the middle of...

I had a truly wonderful experience at this hotel. The rooms were spotless, and the service was just excellent. What really stood out was the incredible staff. They really went above and beyond to ensure we had the best stay possible. One highlight was when they delivered a delicious steak to our room from the Hussar Grill restaurant in the hotel, which was a real treat. We stayed in one of the 2 bed-room apartments which was spotless and spacious, we had a great lounge area & very comfortable beds. We also had a modern fully kitted out kitchen area with bar stools, kettle, toaster, with glasses, cutlery & crockery etc.

The location couldn't have been better—just a 1 min short walk to the main town with all the restaurants, supermarkets, and coffee shops. The hotel is on the main strip in Franschoek.

We visited during the winter, and the staff thoughtfully pre-warmed our room, so it was warm and cozy when we returned. It was pouring one morning so they delivered umbrellas directly to our room! Amy at reception was especially lovely and attentive, and the breakfast staff were equally kind, packing us a delicious takeaway breakfast for our long journey ahead.

I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Franschhoek. The location is perfect, rooms were big and spacious and the exceptional service made it the perfect holiday for us.

Thank you...

A Hidden Gem That Deserves Five Stars As someone who’s clocked countless nights in hotels across continents, I rarely find myself genuinely surprised—but this stay was a revelation. From the moment I arrived, the attention to detail was unmistakable. The room was immaculate, with crisp linens and a spotless bathroom that spoke volumes about the housekeeping standards. Room service was prompt, courteous, and quietly attentive—exactly how it should be. What truly elevated the experience was the seamless harmony between the room, the staff, the location, and the food. Each element complemented the other, creating a stay that felt far more luxurious than its official rating suggests. Frankly, I’m astonished this property isn’t already wearing five stars—it certainly outshines many that do. Whether you're planning a romantic escape, a solo recharge, or a family stopover, this hotel delivers comfort and charm in equal measure. I wholeheartedly recommend making it your next holiday destination. You’ll leave refreshed, impressed, and—like me—already planning your return.

I recently stayed at the Protea Hotel in Franschhoek in the 2-bedroom Cap Classique apartment, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional. From the moment we arrived, the staff and owner made every effort to ensure our stay was special, going the extra mile to celebrate my birthday in the most thoughtful way. The apartment was beautifully maintained, offering a perfect blend of comfort and style. It felt like a home away from home with its spacious layout and serene atmosphere. Every detail, from the plush bedding to the well-equipped kitchen, made our stay incredibly comfortable. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in ensuring we had everything we needed. The personal touches, particularly the birthday surprises, truly made the experience memorable. It’s rare to come across such hospitality, and I can’t recommend this hotel enough for anyone looking for a special stay in Franschhoek. I will definitely be returning!

It’s a Friday night at 22:30 local time: You’ve had a nice meal and enjoyed the spacious and excellent room. It’s now time for bed after a long day. You want to sleep but the wonderful glass windows that give a great view also allow you hear a Karaoke rendition of “We are the World”. Is it the 2020’s or the 1980’s. Wait… “Simply the Best” … sung by someone…definitely not Tina Turner. In all seriousness this hotel is a gem. In addition to normal rooms they have two bedroom apartments that have a kitchen and washing machine. This is great for a family with children. The sliding glass doors open to a patio with a nice view of the mountains. Parking is available in front of the apartment or in a secure area across the street in the main hotel. Overall (other than the off key singing) this is a great place to stay.
