I stumbled upon Base Elements while wandering the Gothic Quarter one morning and was immediately captivated by its stunning collection. The artwork was rich and dynamic. Robert, the gallery’s "big boss," welcomed me with open arms, sharing stories about the artists, the gallery’s history, and his own journey with a genuine passion that made the experience even more special.
Robert invited me to visit his larger gallery/studio that evening (if the door is locked, just ring the bell!) There, I was warmly greeted by the incredibly kind and talented artist Ivana Flores, whose work I’ve included in the pictures below. Ivana's art was among the most striking in the gallery, yet she remained remarkably humble, always eager to highlight the brilliance of her fellow artists. She graciously shared insights into her inspirations, and personal interpretations, making me feel as though I could have talked to her for hours.
Ivana also encouraged me to explore the studio, where she and her fellow artisans bring their masterpieces to life. Seeing the creative process up close added another layer of appreciation to the already mesmerizing experience.
What started as a spontaneous stop became the most memorable highlight of my trip to Barcelona. If you love art, storytelling, and authentic connections, check out this hidden gem! I hope this review helps fellow wanderers discover the magic of...
Read moreIn times of mass tourism, in the middle of the Mecca of this touristic activity (BCN here we are), quite often with a characteristically passive/aggressive attitude, the challenge of art is to shake consciences and provoke questions surrounded by aesthetics/ethics in favor of building awareness with genuinely loving essence. That's where a collectively creative urban art gallery comes in. Far from elitist, classist, erudite and academicist arrogance. The street is down to earth, naked reality is raw. A gallery that proposes the interdimensionality of connecting the collective and the subjective. With open doors, and that magnetically puts people inside it at ease. Every time I was there I witnessed spontaneous interactions between those present (which I confess is sadly a rare occasion in the city's businesses and cultural establishments). And I felt, like countless visitors, welcomed by Robert, the person responsible for the magic described so far. If you are passing through or live in the city of Barcelona, I believe you will carry in your heart the memory of the good time shared and most likely some items for home. Because the art you will find in this gallery is accessible, true and equally unpretentious and...
Read moreWow!! What a hidden gem! Stumbled upon this art gallery on accident, and my mother and I are so happy we did. They have a lot of urban art which is cool. The gallery owner Robert is nice guy, we talked about the type of art he carries and he gave us all the background information on the artists.. But by far the best part was the basement.. The basement doubles as a studio for the artists that he showcases. The day we went he had an lovely lady named Ivana Flores, and she had some really amazing art work. I actually got to watch her work on one of her pieces. After talking with her we decided to purchase a nice piece of hers.. She was nice enough to stop in the middle of painting to chat with us about her work. After we made our purchase she took pictures with us. What a one of a kind experience! Plus Robert pulled up a few chairs and just talked to us in the middle of the gallery.I felt like I made a new friend. If your ever in their area, you must stop bye and see what’s going on that day. You never know who will be there painting the next master piece of our time, plus you won’t...
