I had a lunch at this place with my wife and kid during our vacation in Las Palmas. Friendly service to beginn with. We ordered basically a salad whcih was good and a steak to share. The steak was maybe the worst steak I ever had at a steak house - I had many steaks in my life (lived in US for couple years...). It was a special spanish cow which is supposted to taste that way. I am not sure about that - but I might be wrong. OK, Fine, can happen - next time I will order something else.
We ordered the steak "medium". It was served completelly rare - not even medium rare. After we complained (taste + cooking) they wanted to put the already put steak back on the grill.
For this restaurant I have 3 comments:
a) If you charge about 42,00 Euros for 550,00 gramm steak in Las Palmas (its not NYC) - you should be able to cook it right. b) You can not simply put the already cut steak back on the grill for further cooking - at least if you consider yourself a good steak restaurant c) Never put the steak direct from the fridge on the grill, always bring it to room temperature. This is also what was done wrong. If you do that then you see a straight "line" between cooked and raw meat - which was the case.
After we complained the waiter said "I completelly can undeestand you" went twice "to his boss I guess" - but charged the full amount and didn't offer "anything" as any sort of compensation.
My suggestion:
It you need to charge your customers the full price them offer them at least a "coffee" on the house and appologies to them. If you think that you need to threat "touristts" that way, since they won't come back anyway - than you need to live at least with this kind of reviews.
Unfortunatelly this was our worst (food) experience in the beautiful city of Las Palmas and we had some exceptional ones (e.g. at a reastaurant with "three letters" - without making any advertisement for other...
Read moreMe and my girlfriend ended up loving this place so much that we ate here three times during our 10-day stay in Gran Canaria. The staff were fantastic and treated us so nicely and the food was amazing! Our first time here left a great impression where we were recommended to try a local rib steak, so we shared the canary heifer and a burrata salad before we had a brownie and apple crumble for dessert. Here we learned that they had a special arrangement for New Year's Eve, so we decided to join that as well. This time it was a set price for a fixed menu with several starters, main courses and a dessert, three beers or glasses of wine, and a goodie bag. Every single dish they served was delicious, especially the wagyu and Kobe steaks! My girlfriend also discovered her new favourite white wine here. Our third and final time was our last evening on the island so we decided to try the Origen burger with several starters - another great dining experience!
Location-wise it might be easy to miss Origen SteakHouse. The Las Palmas region is stock-full of restaurants overlooking the beach and ocean, but be wary because many of these will rely on the view while offering the bare minimum in food quality and service. Origen SteakHouse on the other hand is located in a side street where you can't really view the beach, but it will more than make up for it in every other aspect.
Definitely one of the best restaurants in the Las Palmas region and I couldn't...

BE AWARE- the online Google Maps reservation tool might mislead you. It said they were fully booked, we went to check and tables were available! Sharing is caring ;)
Now on to the review- from the moment we walked into El Origen, we knew we were in for something special, due to all the reviews I read on Google maps, Tripadvisor and other online websites (yes I am like that), and it did not disappoint! This place is full of passion for meat, and has great hospitality- the Spanish way.
The staff were not only incredibly polite and attentive, but genuinely passionate about what they do. What really set this visit apart was the care and time they took to walk us through the different cuts of meat, from their fresh selection to the impressive range of dry-aged options. They didn’t just sell us a meal—they told us a story and interesting facts- origen of the name “ribeye”, how to spot someone trying to sell you authentic dry aged meats and more. You could feel their pride in the sourcing and preparation of every cut.
After some deliberation (and helpful guidance from the team), we went with the ribeye fresh and dry aged. Perfectly cooked, bursting with flavor, and melt-in-your-mouth tender.
If you appreciate high-quality meat, thoughtful presentation, and warm, knowledgeable service, El Origen is a must-visit. We’ll absolutely be back—if we come back...
