On Friday, 22nd August 2025 around 4:30 PM, we visited the Yamaha Music Center at Bauddhaloka Mawatha to buy the latest Yamaha SX920 for my 12-year-old daughter. The listed price was Rs. 638,000, and they only reduced it to Rs. 618,000. This was not a special offer — just their usual reduction.
What was most disappointing was their refusal to honor the voucher from Kasun Kalhara Music Academy, which clearly states that students are entitled to a 10–12% discount. The staff ignored the voucher completely and gave no explanation. This was extremely unprofessional and shows a lack of respect for both the academy and its students.
Although we went ahead with the purchase because we needed the instrument, the overall experience was very negative. Yamaha is a globally respected brand, but this branch is damaging that reputation by misleading customers with inconsistent pricing practices and by failing to recognize promised discounts.
Customers should be cautious — especially parents and students — because the discounts promoted through trusted academies are not being honored here. Yamaha management should urgently take steps to fix this and train their staff to treat customers with fairness and...
Read moreThe place is a great to checkout on your favourite instruments, strings, percussion, wind though i didn't see violins, flues or saxophones But there are 4 string bass-s, acoustic/semi acoustic guitars, electric guitars, keyboards, amplifiers, step paddles, bongos, drum sets, and accessories as well.
You are free to try out any instrument, they will help you Eg: wanna try a guitar? They will plug the amp and tune it for you. One down side is when I go there today, most strings are slightly rusted and not changed. But the guitars and instruments themselves are pretty clean.
There are few seats but it is not advice to take your backpacks in since there's no counter or rack to hold them. Either you place it on floor near the door or keep it in your vehicle or give it to your anti music friend.
The staff is very knowledgeable with the instruments and mark that this isn't the place if your looking for cheap. All are branded, high end or high...
Read moreI had bought a digital piano Yamaha CLP-735, I got issues with the piano after 8 months and their warranty service is bad. The piano switches off by itself, anywhere between a couple seconds to 10minutes of use. I notified their Service department saying to wait 2-3 weeks that they would gather other customers (outside of Colombo). I asked them for updates after 3 weeks, they didn't answer me.
They called after about 6 weeks telling me I was the only customer and I had to pay 2 trips of pickme(about 13000lkr) plus another 15000lkr for the inspection. I don't find this good practice to leave clients waiting, without updates, then asking for a full trip on pickme and also inspection costs...when the piano is still under official Yamaha warranty(bought new)...
At the end the piano still presents this issue, some days it works others not, thus unplayable and I don't accept their...
