Alright, so I just finished my first week at the newly renovated Activ Fitness Bellevue, and honestly, it's a bit of a mixed bag. I've been working out at Activ for a few years (not because it's amazing - but because it's convenient for home & work). The Good: * Mirrors: Okay, they definitely got the memo that most their gyms are devoid of well placed mirrors. * Olympic Racks: They've got a decent amount of Olympic lifting platforms, which is a huge plus. Although, given how packed it gets, a couple more wouldn't hurt. They have the space for them. * Cable machines: They actually have a decent number. A few more rope racks might tidy up the mess people make (see further comment below). The Not-So-Good: * Missing the basics: Missing basic equipment (eg, EZ bars, calf raise chairs, preacher curl chairs, and tricep pushdown machines, decline ab bench). * Kettlebell shortage: They've got kettlebells, but nothing over 20kg. They built a functional exercise zone but didn't provide the matching free weight equipment. * Cardio: Only one proper stationary bike and one rower. But instead a random table and chairs (see picture) that would be better placed elsewhere. * Weight racks: This isn't really Activ Fitness's fault, put the weights back where they belong. The racks are even labeled for you. 20kg weight is stored where it says "20kg". * Wasted space: There's so much empty space in this gym! They could easily fit in 20% more equipment if they used the space properly. (See picture) The "What Were They Thinking?": * Soft flooring: Okay, the functional training zone floor is cool, but it may be more practical (and cheaper) to just use regular gym mats. Overall: The renovated Activ Fitness Bellevue has some good points, but it also has some frustrating flaws. It feels like they focused on aesthetics over functionality in many areas. Hopefully, they'll take some of this feedback and make some adjustments.

Kind of crazy how much smaller and barebones the gym has become compared to when it was open before the construction. The entire gym is just in the space occupied by the previous Globus kitchenware section and it feels quite small. A lot of space is occupied by a balcony which is pointless. Also to reopen in December and not have any sauna on offer is crazy for a prime location like this, especially when every Activ Fitness nearby has one. Even the old gym had a basic sauna in each changing room. Update: the rubber section of the floor is also super filthy. I saw an employee try to clean it with a dry mop and gave up when it didn’t work, but it doesn’t even seem like they vacuum overnight, it’s disgusting. I feel gross even putting my training towel on the floor to do stretches.

I’ve been going to this location for a little while. I really like that everything is renovated and new. It gets busy (I got right at open at 6:30) but clears out within a hour and I’m not waiting for machines or a rack ever. I will agree to the other comments that there feels like there is wasted space for tables. That space could be used for another rowing machine and stationary bike. I think they could also use at least another stair master (only 2), another hip thrust, and a few more benches that can be used in the functional weight training area. I love the locker rooms, very convenient to lock and unlock with the wrist band. Overall really like this gym, just think they should remove the miscellaneous tables and fill it with machines or benches

I was at Active Fitness in Bellevue, Zürich, and the gym was incredibly packed — almost every machine was in use. I noticed the group fitness room was completely empty (no classes at the time), so I thought it would be fine to do part of my workout there on a mat.

After about 15 minutes, a staff member walked in. From the look on her face, I could already tell I had apparently done something wrong. I politely asked, “Is it not allowed to train here?” and received a curt, almost arrogant “No.” No explanation, no friendly tone — just a blunt response that left me feeling quite unwelcome.

I understand if it’s not allowed, but there were no signs or notices anywhere stating this. If it’s truly against the rules, why not put up a simple sign so people don’t make the same mistake? Especially considering how overcrowded the rest of the studio is, it doesn’t make sense not to let members use an empty space.

It’s not just about rules — it’s the way things are communicated. A little friendliness goes a long way. This experience really put me off, and I’ll likely look for another studio with a more...
