My 3 year old wanted to come back here for a second day (we did). You buy a ticket for the mini train only, a ticket for the exhibition only, or a combo meal ticket that includes both. In the exhibition area, there is a massive diaroma with about a dozen model trains making the rounds which kept my son occupied for the better part of an hour. There is also a place inside there where the kids can dress up like conductors and, with a parent, can ride a pedal powered train car through a couple of switches.
The mini train was great, as well, and the ride lasts 7 minutes. If you go on it a second time, you are able to request the front seat and also receive a discount.
Staff were amazing... all were super friendly and most can speak English.
It was my son's highlight of our trip, but be advised that he's a bit of a train fan.
Last tip: There is the "green line" light rail station about a 10 minute walk away. Riding that train costs $10 NWT and the first several stations follow the waterline and are kinda scenic. If you don't feel like paying $150 for you and $99 for the kid to ride the mini train,...
