Full disclosure: I am an artist. I love museums. I worked at a museum for years. This place made me so frustrated and mad. First, this place is a so-called "museum." Quoting Eden Gallery's website: "An art gallery ... aims to raise the profile of artists who exhibit in its spaces and ultimately sell artworks. ... Museums focus on education and awareness, so they will often receive public funding to help them make the arts more widely available to the general public." The Wu Dengyi Museum calls itself a "private art museum," which is a contradiction, but going to the museum itself, it's very clear that the purpose is to market Dengyi's works--every piece is priced. So, no, this is not a "museum," it is a gallery with art that happens to be by the same artist who's named after the place (and, no, he is not deceased, so it's not named after him in memoriam). On top of that, the compound could not be more obviously a wedding venue if it tried. It's definitely the first "museum" I've been to with chandeliers, a "bar" area labeled on signs (an empty cabana-looking corner, where the wedding bar comes out) and a white, wooden patio overlooking the river that is obviously there to stage fancy wedding photos. Look at the photo I added: Does that look like an active museum space to you? I think the fact that they call this a "museum," is clearly there to sell the artist's works, is clearly a wedding venue, and they charge $200 NTD on top of...
Read moreMany of the exhibits are air conditioned so it’s good for the summer. The art pieces are for sale, including original as well as limited print.
IMHO, if you think of this as an art museum, it’s a bit hubris to charge $200 admission for the exhibits. If you think of it as a historical site that was renovated to include some art from an artist, then it makes some sense.
Evening/night time might be more beautiful when the venue is lighted up.
You can see that they are very ambitious is trying to renovate this place to be a mainstay attraction, but like many ambitions, it falls a bit short and many of the functions are closed or...

We really liked looking at all of Wu Deng Yi’s art - such interesting styles in his career! The staff was all very kind as well, and we adopted a black cat painting to bring...
