Agei is a palm-sized tofu cake with a chewy fried shell inside a soft, chewy vermicelli belly that is seasoned with a special sauce, which may vary by the store's recipe. With Wenhua, the sauce seems a bit strong for those who eat it lightly. Dumplings with soft and chewy shells filled with meat are not too special, and fish soup with broth in the bar with chewy white fish balls. I've never had "ah gei" before but was told it was famous here in Tamsui. It's basically vermicelli wrapped inside a tofu skin.
I stopped by this unassuming store unbeknownst that a famous singer ate here before.
The ah gei was decent in size and packed with vermicelli noodles. The tofu skin was thin as well. The spicy sauce was recommemded by the sales lady and I'm glad i listened. It added the perfect balance in flavor.
Service was very friendly. I had no idea what ah gei was but she was patient enough to explain and even show me what it looked like. There's also plenty of seating available, too
