Thermal Valley is a pretty popular destination spot in Taiwan for both tourists and locals who wish to spend the day relaxing in a resort or in one of the hot springs located in Beitou. With the MRT in Taiwan, going to Thermal Valley (or Geothermal Valley, Hell Valley) is definitely affordable, making this popular landmark a must-see.
There's a lot of different aspects to Thermal Valley, but each has its significance. There's the main hot springs where people gather around the entrance waiting to be let in. There's also a historical bathhouse that has information regarding the history of Thermal Valley. And then there's the main attraction that is Thermal Valley itself, the volcanic crater filled with natural sulfuric hot spring water.
The hot springs area isn't too big, but it is definitely a sight to behold. Because the water can get up to 212 degrees Fahrenheit, it's blocked off by a gate (although I have heard of people accidentally falling in and dying due to the heat). Due to the heat from the water, a mist is formed creating a dreamy, surreal-like atmosphere; and complimenting the jade-colored lake are the rich and vibrant green trees behind the hot springs, making this an ideal picture spot. If you happen to visit on a day where there aren't too many tourists, definitely stop and take in the breathtaking wonder of what was once deemed as one of eight of Taiwan's great natural beauties. While the view is indeed breathtaking, the smell that is emitted from the sulfuric water is less than pleasant. But you get used to it after awhile, so don't let that hinder you from taking in the beauty!
If you walk a bit further, there's a small waterfall hidden underneath the rocks and trees. Seeing as Beitou is home to many locals, there are lots of trails that led further up the hot springs. There are a ton of resorts and hotels here as well, but I figure they'd be pricier than living elsewhere in the city.
tl;dr - If you're into nature and the outdoors, I would definitely recommend making a stop to Beitou. It's definitely a sight to behold! And I've heard that since the heat is not hot enough to sustain another volcanic eruption, the hot springs may not last forever, so visit...

Xin Beitou Thermal Valley is located near Xinbeitou MRT station, it takes around 15 minutes walk from MRT station. It is a bit uphill, just be ready for the uphill.
Upon reaching you will see people selling Onsen eggs from the thermal valley and you can buy it for 15 NTD/egg. It is quite delicious and eat it with pepper, Inside the thermal valley there are small shop to buy souvenir and ice cream if you want.
When go inside, you can smell the sulfur and the smoke from the valley. It is very hot inside and be careful not to dip your feet to the thermal valley or throw any rubbish/stone causing the water to spray on you.
When i went with my group of friends, there are some bugs/mosquito biting them( i think because close to the forest area) just bring mosquito/bugs repellant and you will be fine.
When you walk inside, you can go to hiking trail and go to other end, but we just like to enjoy the thermal valley and walk back again to city. :)
It is nice area, but just dont spend too much time inside and breath so much sulfur (if you got some asthma, better be prepared because the smell of sulfur is quite thick)
Overall nice area and I enjoy the tranquility...

The atmosphere here is incredibly gentle and relaxing. While the main hot spring lake itself isn't massive, its beauty is undeniable. The sight of the turquoise, sulfuric water constantly shrouded in a veil of steam is truly mesmerizing. Combined with the lush greenery surrounding the valley, the rising mist creates a mystical and calming scene that feels a world away from the city hustle. It’s a fantastic place for a peaceful stroll and some amazing photos.
One of the best parts is that Thermal Valley is a public park, so it is completely free to enter. You can walk in, enjoy the unique scenery at your own pace, and experience this natural wonder without any cost.
I highly recommend a visit. It's a quick but memorable stop that offers a powerful and beautiful glimpse into the natural forces that make...
