The Carlton Hotel Bangkok Sukhumvit has set hotel stay expectations to a new high for me.
I travelled to Thailand in April when restrictions were still placed on incoming tourists. This included Thailand Pass applications with strict airport transfers, RT-PCR tests on arrival and mandatory isolation until a negative result was obtained.
Booking through Agoda made the Thailand Pass process much easier as the hotel had everything prepared to ensure that the Thailand Pass was approved. The hotel communicated with me via email to ensure I was well informed on where I would need to meet and the requirements I needed to undergo to successfully enter Thailand.
On arrival to the airport I was met by the hotels driver who took me directly to a hospital nearby the hotel for a drive-thru RT-PCR and then straight to the hotel lobby where I checked in at a separate reception desk.
I arrived fairly early at approx 10am however the room I had booked was made ready as a measure to ensure comfortable isolation within the hotel. I was immediately taken to my room and advised to isolate until my negative Covid-19 test result.
The staff were extremely friendly, always had a smile and were very accommodating to requests. I was further informed that during my isolation period I was entitled to 20% off the room service menu. Normally I avoid room service due to the exorbitant prices however Carlton Hotel's pricing was very cheap and affordable in comparison to what I am normally used to. Plus the extra 20% off was a nice added touch!
The room service arrived and was initially delivered in takeaway containers with disposable cutlery for Covid-19 safe reasons which is understandable and I was not left disappointed. The room service menu was absolutely delicious to the point where I ended up ordering room service a further 2 times in my stay. (After mandatory isolation the room service orders were delivered on lovely wooden trays with plates and metal utensils). I definitely must compliment the chefs in the kitchen of Carlton Hotel. I am thoroughly impressed as this must have been the best room service experience I have had in any hotel in the world.
The rooftop pool was beautiful, warm and surprisingly quiet during my stay. The morning swim was extremely refreshing and relaxing at the same time. The pool is surrounded by numerous sun loungers and seats with beautiful bathroom/shower facilities available for use.
The fully equipped gym surpassed my expectations as it was more than just a rack of dumbbells and a bench but included numerous machines for compound exercises and a cable gym allowing for a full body workout if required.
The breakfast buffet was marvellous. I was greeted by friendly staff each day and taken to a table in front of an extensive menu of food, drinks, sweets and catered goods. The coffee service was wonderful and the omelette bar was delicious. The kitchen and omelette bar is located in the centre and is open for guests to interact with the chefs.
Carlton Hotel's location was incredibly convenient as it was located within walking distance to 3 Metro Stations (Sukhumvit, Asok and Phrom Phong). Additionally, you could do a 2 minute walk and reach EmQuartier which is a luxury shopping centre with a huge spiral rooftop restaurant complex
Overall, I am blown off my feet and incredibly impressed with the service that was offered to me by the staff at Carlton Hotel Bangkok Sukhumvit. From the booking process, Covid-safe measures, staff friendliness, chef skill and location I am in awe that a hotel is capable of such high level service. My only wish is that all the staff in Carlton Hotel remain as friendly, professional and proud of their work as they are when I visited.
I will miss waking up in the Executive Suite to Bangkok everyday. Until next time Carlton...

Service â The staff were courteous, professional and attentive. From the receptionists to the bell boys, we felt very well looked after. The highlight aspect of the service was the efficiency. Despite the clearly high volume of guests in the lobby, the check-in process was quick and the bags were delivered to the room in a timely manner. Service was also seamless and non-intrusive which is always appreciated.
Suite â We stayed in their executive suite (Room #2518) which featured a separate living room and bedroom. The suite was very spacious, modern with a lux-art twist in its design language. Some key highlights in the room were the super comfortable king-sized bed with a âsleeping-beautyâ mattress (not too hard or too soft), a soak-in bathtub, separate rain shower and an automatic bidet toilet system. Also, âThe White Companyâ luxury amenities are also a nice touch. The panoramic views from the floor to ceiling windows of Bangkokâs skyline can be enjoyed especially at night. Enchanting. The combination of bed, pillows and black out curtains almost made us miss breakfast. Wifi speeds were fast enough for zoom calls and some video conference. Last but not least, the smart TV has Bluetooth capabilities which allows you to connect your smartphone to the speakers and enjoy some great music while unwinding.
Cooling Tower â Super chilled out and relaxing vibes at their bar located on the 34th floor. This was a perfect spot for a few drinks and light snacks. We thoroughly enjoyed the tapas style food including the nachos, truffle-style pizza, calamari, mussels, and portobello mushroom. The food was so good that we had a full meal while mesmerized by Bangkokâs glittering skyline. Their truffle pizza was simply delicious. We also noticed that their bar menu was extensive with various beers, spirits and wines. December is a cooler month in Bangkok and this is easily one of our favorite spots to be in the city!
Wah Lok Cantonese Restaurant â By far the highlight of our stay. As you enter this Cantonese restaurant within the hotel, youâre welcomed by smiling faces as youâre seating comfortably on a round table. Personally, I love round tables because it adds to the experience of conversing with all diners. Looking across the expansive restaurant, the transparent glass showcases the activity within the kitchen from the chefs. For starters we had a variety of dim sums including steamed pork baos, dumplings, and the crispy bean curd with prawn cheong fan. All the dim sum are made daily and the freshness of the ingredients really flow through. We especially enjoyed the shrimp and pork dumplings which were large, succulent and delicious. To follow, we had the spicy lemongrass infused baked snow fish which was the highlight dish of the meal. The aromatic lemongrass in combination of the sightly burnt charcoal smell on the snow fish caresses the palate with its tenderness. It was mild as far as spice levels go. No Cantonese meal is complete without some Peking Duck. This was excellent. The crispy skin of duck and their XO sauce was a perfect union of flavor and wonderful texture. Sometimes the skin of the duck is chewy which is never a good sign. Not the case here at Wah Lok. We decided to do with preparing the duck meat with garlic which was amazing. Finally for dessert, we the chilled lemon grass jelly which was a wonderful palate cleanser and an excellent way to end this...
Read moreI wanted to treat us to a lovely evening in a 5 star hotel in Bangkok. I had very, very good memories of the Sofitel Sukhumvit. I remember we paid 8400 baht per night but were upgraded to a corner suite. It was fantastic from start to finish and I really couldn't fault the hotel at all. But this time, I thought why not try the Carlton. Well, I was unpleasantly disappointed. First of all the person at the reception told us that the rooftop was completly closed because it was a Buddha Day and that he could not sell alcohol. Hmmm, i feel it strange because they still allowed to sell food! We had booked a room at the Carlton club and when we arrived on the 29th floor of the Carlton club the entrance door that leads to the rooftop is right next door. I asked the receptionist at the Carlton Club why the rooftop was closed and she told me there was a private party. why did the receptionist on the ground floor need to lie to me? So we went to the rooftop of the Sofitel Sukhumvit that night... Of course the rooftop was open at the Sofitel but it was not allowed to sell alcohol but you could dine there without any problem. I only had one request, that when I am lying on the bed I have a nice view of the towers of Bangkok and not of a building very close by. I first made the request to the receptionist on the ground floor, he told me ok then I made the request again to the person from the Carlton club who told me ok but that we had to wait until 2 p.m., I said ok no problem, we will come back at 2 p.m. And when I came into the room of course when you were lying on the bed you had a completely blocked view of a building.. It was not a very complicated request and when you pay for a night that costs 10,000 baht, we can still hope that the staff has a minimum of skills and understanding. I didn't take the time to take pictures of the first room with a view of the building. But the following photos represent exactly what happened between the first room and the second room. That is to say a view of a building and another view of all the towers of Bangkok. For once I don't recommend the hotel club here, it's the Carlton club. The air conditioning is way too cold and it blows on you in many places. The cups are so iced that the coffee I received was lukewarm. I've had much better club lounges. The breakfast was good except the eggs benedicts. On the other hand, it is located in the basement. So there is no view to the outside. During the day, it is also one of the hotel's restaurants, so it has no windows. The room was a decent size. Everything worked fine. I found the TV to be a bit old. It wasn't a smart TV and the mattress was nowhere near as good as the one at the Sofitel Sukhumvit. Shower gel, shampoo etc... were all common in most hotels whereas at Sofitel Sukumvit it was full Hermes amenities. Unfortunately we were woken up several times by the sound of slamming doors as well as by the neighbors above which proves that the soundproofing is far from being suitable for a 5 star hotel of this rank. We could hear our neighbors talking at night! Well, I think I said it all. For me, it was really a disappointment and I highly recommend the Sofitel Sukhumvit compared to the Carlton. In my opinion, it is not at all the same level of service. With all the hotels in Bangkok, you can easily find the equivalent for half the price...
