Read moreThe Holiday Inn Bangkok Sukhumvit holds a dear place in our hearts. Its service is tough to beat. Our last visit was in January 2020 before COVID. In early 2022, Thailand opened to tourists and we stayed for 14 days in June.
Our earlier reviews of this hotel cover the human resources, hospitality and maintenance perspective, in detail. All in all, with every aspect covered, it is indeed a quintessential gold service without boundaries.
To borrow a quote – ‘’Hospitality is a combination of people and magic — people who care enough to go beyond their own selfish desires in order to create magic.’’
The above is positively authentic, vibrant and colourful today as it has been before in this hotel. Led by an able team, helmed by – Ms Poom (Nuttanicha Srikaew), they collectively exhibited that effervescent magic, with their current staff strength. The hotel welcomed new staff members as tourism returned.
HOTEL PREMISES – Like before, at every step, all matters appeared in place, from the cleanliness and food in Zeta Café, to the array of multiple dishes, the room atmosphere, the bed comfort including the equipment was all in order and good operational condition. Clean lobbies and the concierge busy and alert. Swift at arranging taxis. An amazing effort by the hotel staff as they geared for the influx of tourists with happy smiles.
TRUE TEST – A true test of hospitality reveals a high level of professionalism, care and concern displayed by hotel staff.
My husband suffered acute abdominal pains in the first week, later diagnosed as kidney stones & blocked urethra. Ms Poom immediately recommended ‘Wellness Clinic’, as the first response to investigate. The clinic is a short walk from the hotel. Dr Sumait Premmanisakul attended and gave prescriptions to my husband and we observed for 3 days. The pain emerged again and Dr Sumait recommended a further detailed investigation, and off we were to Sukhumvit Hospital followed by a stay at Camillian Hospital.
The success of the whole operation is in part due to early groundwork by the hotel staff especially Ms Poom, and her able assistant staff (photo at right). The options available, clinics & hospitals and calling to check the availability of the doctors etc. The hotel staff followed up with us regularly and extended a warm helping hand.
The medical incident was a big scare for us in a foreign land. Fortunately, Ms Poom and her team responded swiftly and amazingly that assisted in decision-making. Our heartfelt gratitude to all of them. For the readers, Wellness Clinic & Dr Sumait is recommended a visit in the event you face medical issues. Sukhumvit Hospital and Camillian Hospital both have their strengths and are affordable.

Read moreThe Good: As a Platinum member, I was upgraded to a Premium room. It is always nice to get a room upgrade! The room itself was fine, albeit it felt a bit dark.
Staff were consistently very friendly. Always greeted with a smile. They were able to arrange a taxi to the BKK airport for a very reasonable 500 Baht.
The Not so Good: Check in was slow and you have to go up to level 9 (it is not on the ground floor). It does not feel great when after a lengthy journey, you have to wait in queue to get served. I did not see any priority check in counter for those who have status.
The shower was one of those where you have to stand in a bathtub, something which personally I am not a fan of. The shower did not drain properly and as a result, my feet would be standing in a pool of water each time I showered. Also, one time as I climbed into the bathtub/shower, I skinned my leg on the sharp outer edge. Ouch!
The bathroom sink is very horizontally flat and as a result, did not drain very well. When you brush your teeth, the white toothpaste residue would often stay on the sink and defy attempts to rinse away. I would literally have to cup water and splash it around repeatedly to get rid of the residue.
Internet would sometimes slow down to unacceptable speeds. Fortunately, it would return after a few minutes so it was not a show stopper, just irritating.
The automatic Hotel front sliding doors would often not open. You had to back up, and wave your arms repeatedly for the sensors to detect you. This is something that a hotel should be able to get right.
Room Service whilst keeping the place quite clean, were perhaps a bit overzealous. Having forgotten my toothbrush, I opened one of the hotels toothbrushes and was using it. I noticed Room Service kept throwing away the one I was using and giving me a new one! There is no need as it is a bit wasteful! Worse yet, they also threw away my favourite comb which I had brought from home. Whilst they did replace it with a hotel comb, I wanted my original one one back (obtained from some hotel a million years ago, it was a slightly longer one with wide bristles)! A very slight and unusual inconvenience!
Location: Located right next to EmSphere shopping centre. This is great for shopping and dining. Just a very short walk to Emporium and EmQuartier shopping centres. It is in between BTS stations, with Phrom Phong probably being slightly closer.
General Impresisons: This hotel has great friendly staff, a good location, but the hotel ambience seems quite clinical and dark (lacking warmth) and a departure from the typical decor of a Holiday Inn. There were also a number of relatively minor issues that marred the...
