Well-worth the climb.. So a bit before you get to the Railay Viewpoint, there's a turnoff from the trail that leads down to the lagoon. As many here are saying, it is roped off, and there is a sign saying you are not allowed to go down to the lagoon (December, 2018). If that's the end for you, then great, but for those continuing.. It starts off as a steep hill down, with some ropes to help out. Then you get to the real descent: three sizeable vertical drops. Two of them basically require you to depend on ropes that are there to descend (a little fraying in the ropes does not build confidence, but overall the ropes are in good condition, and definitely did the trick). There's a lot of scrambling, finding footing and places to grip, etc, but it is definitely doable. The lagoon itself is beautiful! Very sharp rocks as you get in, but once you're a few feet in, your basically good to go (though beware the errant rock farther in). If you can, take a camera inside and shoot some amazing pics of the sides -- stalactites, interesting vegetation, etc. Make sure to also look up and see the sky through the lagoon opening. I'd say the climb basically cannot be done with flip flops. Sneakers or barefoot (I wish I'd brought sneakers). I'm in my late 30's and not particularly in shape, though fit overall, and I did it, but let's say I was pushing my limits a bit, both physically and mentally -- there were many people quitting, and the fact that there's a sign saying the climb is forbidden does not build confidence. Overall, definitely recommended!

Okay I must put a disclaimer first and say that I am a climber and a technical hiker, so this “hike” to get here was totally up my alley. The very start of the trail with the vertical wall and ropes gives you a very good idea of what you’re getting into, and there’ll just be more of it, and harder parts. The ropes come in handy for ascent and descent and once you finish the first part of the trail, you go right to go to the lagoon, and then from there you follow the trail until you arrive at a series of walls that will take you down. They all look worse than they actually are, but I must say having some sort of scrambling / bouldering / climbing experience is necessary if you want to do this safely. I can easily see this going horribly wrong for people who aren’t prepared or have the wrong footwear. Remember this is a relatively remote and inaccessible area and getting emergency help will be a a heroic feat. When I got to the lagoon it was empty because I arrived at a time when the tide was out, but I wasn’t fussed because this “hike” was worth the experience. Plenty of mud. Length of adrenaline. Plenty of scrambling. Plenty of places to practice your climbing / bouldering / abseiling skills. I’ve added pics to give you an idea of what to expect.

When reviews say this climb is tough and challenging, multiply that by a million. I'm a regular person, I used to work out but haven't in over a year for various reasons and this was THE hardest thing i have ever done in my 28 years of life. I ended up slipping one cliff away from the lagoon, bonked my head on the rocks and i have gnarly bruises all over my legs and arms, i cried because that was terrifying especially because there's no guides around or safety measures except some muddy ropes along the way to "help" you climb (i slipped using the rope but there wasn't any good footing in this particular part), HOWEVER after being cheered on by some amazing people who were also enduring this insane adventure, I made it to the lagoon and it was so worth it. The view is breathtakingly gorgeous, unlike anything I've ever seen before. The water is so warm, the ground is squishy but it's fairly shallow throughout the lagoon. There's a lot of sharp rocks at the base so it's hard to walk on but the lagoon is so fricken beautiful it was worth banging up my entire body for. I don't have pics from inside the lagoon because i didnt bring my waterproof case that day but if you are intrigued by the other photos i took and think you are capable of doing some insane rock climbing without any gear or safety precautions but your own self, i definitely recommend. This is not for everyone, not for most people honestly, looking back i probably should not have gone but i persevered and made it out alive and experienced the most beautiful, secluded, calm waters in thailand! If you do attempt this climb, please please please wear proper shoes because it's muddy and slippery which adds to the challenge of holding onto the rope and rocks with all your grip strength! Very fricken gorgeous lagoon though. The climbing down is what got me, climbing up is easier because I feel like you have more control and gravity isn't waiting for you to put too much pressure on one side of your body to take you tumbling down😅 *also to add on, i started climbing at 2:30pm and got to the lagoon at 4, and got back to flat land at 5. If you are extremely athletic and an expert rock climber you probably won't be on the trk for 3hrs like i was but if you're normal, be prepared to spend a lot of time heading to the lagoon. Coming back is much quicker and less dangerous than getting there in...

This is the translation from Google Translate of Artiom posted his review on 13Feb2020. :-D Clay, rocks, tree roots, ropes. I don’t to get, it depends on physical fitness. If stacked as needed about 40-60 minutes. Personally, I liked the ascent and descent no less than the lake itself. I was able to use some of the skills that I worked on last year. Concentration, balance, plastic. As a result, with a backpack full of things that I arrived with and a bag with a camera, I easily managed on all the ups and downs. Kaifonul. Like in a game. It is important to make sure that during the walk there will be high water in the sea (high tide). The lake is a geological phenomenon, you can come and discover a puddle and dirt. In my case, all the "stars" converged and everything coincided perfectly in time. Just before leaving the peninsula, I set off to realize a small dream. It is still not advisable to be there in the rain, very slippery. There is no infrastructure, there are few tourists, not everyone is ready to get dirty in clay and sweat. Time must be calculated, the sun sets closer to 18:00 but in the jungle it gets dark earlier. Trees are inconceivably held on the rocks, huge ferns, indescribable beauty. I also checked the acoustics with a scream, it works perfectly. So if you like to shout, go there. My insta: boss9889 there...
