We came here last year and absolutely loved it, so returned this year to celebrate Christmas. Unfortunately, things did not live up to our memories.
The food was delicious and the decor beautiful, however the service was very strange. Our order was taken, including a starter, and all was going well. However, when our starter arrived (the ‘naked tomatoes’) we realised we needed something like a bread to have with it, and ordered that as well (making it clear it was for our starter, not our main course). We waited patiently for the bread to arrive, as we knew that it couldn’t just magically appear. 10 minutes later, with our tomato starter still waiting to be eaten, nothing had turned up so we figured they had just forgotten and ate without the bread. When our starter had been completely finished for about 5 minutes, and after one of our main dishes arrived, they bought the bread out. We explained that we had waited for it to go with our starter, and no longer wanted it. We still, at this point, just assumed it was a misunderstanding. The waiter quite rudely then said that it had obviously needed to be toasted…we did point out it had been 20+ minutes and bread doesn’t usually take that long to become toast.
This was just one small weird moment in a bigger list. Waiters walking off halfway through us asking for a drink, our water then taking 10 minutes and a lot of confusion to be brought out, one of my friends being repeatedly hit by plates as waiters cleared the table, and having to ask that our very empty plates be cleared were just a few of the other strange occurrences. Add to this the fact we had to quite literally wave our arms in the air to flag the waiters down, because our assigned waiter was either stood staring at us across the room (and serving no one else, to help out his colleagues) or was nowhere to be seen (and the other waiters then acted like we were invisible).
It wasn’t just our group that things were weird for. Other tables sat with completely empty glasses and no service for extremely long periods of time, and then no eyelids were batted at all when a group next to us spent 30 minutes standing very close to other tables and being quite obnoxious, in an attempt to get ‘influencer’ photos (without actually eating any of the food or drinks brought out to them).
All in all, the service was just very odd. There was one waitress who seemed to be doing a lot of the work and then some of the male staff needed to work together to simply remove a tablecloth. Odd.
We really hope that it was just an off night for the staff, and that perhaps that combination of waiters had never worked together...
Read moreI’ve been driving past this restaurant for quite a while and always wanted to try. The decoration is a ten. It felt like you are transported to another country which was very impressive.
Staff are good at what they were trained to do.
Food are quite disappointing.
We ordered a tuna cone which is one of the restaurant’s recommendations available on line. The cone was unpleasantly chewy. I could imagine it could have been better if the cones were made fresh or not as soaked with the syrup.
Naked tomatoes was flavorful. Sweet and sour. A little too flavored that you can even eat them with rice and still taste the ponzu very strongly. The first bite was great but you cannot really go through the whole dish. Maybe I’d say a little increase of the portion of fresh farm cheese, Mizuna, and sourdough would be helpful for balancing the dish out.
Next, we had the truffle pappardelle which smelled nice and it was one of the dishes that were edible.
Filetto Rossini was a nightmare. I’ve requested for a medium rare because I didn’t know how thick it would be and the staff didn’t bother to say anything. The steak was inedible. The chewiest steak I have ever had. I take the responsibility of not knowing I should have had it at medium or medium well but I would expect the staff to know better and to think to make a suggestion. The foie gras smelled. The veal jus was not a good addition to the dish and the spinach were tasteless.
Another dish is the fish in cream sauce. I don’t remember the exact name but you will notice on the menu. This dish was okay compared to the other ones above.
Tiramisu was okay. Not the best but helped the night a bit.
We went to spend an anniversary here and expected the whole experience to be good as it looks but it was the most disappointing restaurant visit ever in...
Read moreDisappointing Service Despite Great Atmosphere
I’ve been to this restaurant several times, and the atmosphere is always lovely, especially during Christmas—it really feels festive and cozy. The food has always been good, and this visit was no exception. They warned us upfront about a long queue for food preparation, so we understood the wait. However, the service this time was utterly disappointing and frustrating.
We ordered several dishes, opened a bottle, had a round of cocktails and desserts. Despite a mix-up with the drinks (which took 20 minutes to arrive and needed to be corrected), we stayed patient and didn’t let it ruin our mood. But then, a particular hostess approached us and insisted we settle the bill and move to the upstairs bar, claiming the restaurant had a two-hour dining limit because other guests were waiting for tables.
We agreed to move upstairs, where one staff member offered to move everything for us, only to have another tell us to carry our own glasses. When we arrived at the bar, it was mostly empty. We wanted to choose a comfortable seat (a process that took less than a minute), but the hostess made a face as if we were an inconvenience.
To top it all off, our bill was around 9,000 baht, and they tried to charge us extra for the cocktail they had initially gotten wrong. We had to explain the mistake to avoid being double-charged. The cherry on top? When we went downstairs to leave, we saw another table (seated before us) full of people still occupying their table well beyond the supposed two-hour limit.
The food and atmosphere may be great, but the inconsistent service, rude attitudes, and preferential treatment left a sour taste in our mouths. For such a high bill, we expected much better. Unfortunately, this experience makes me...
